Exclusivity and the lack of personal freedoms associated with it, these are the topics upon which I am about to rant. Now, most people would say,” Damn right, screw those exclusive clubs!” however I speaking of the loss of the right to be “Selective” and or exclusive. Unless I missed the memo, it is still acceptable….although from the way the world has been acting as of late…it is very possible that I did in fact miss that memo.

Take this story for example: Sorority kicked off of campus

Now, I have nothing against any minority group what so ever. I personally belong to one of the fastest growing minorities in the United States, white middle lower class male. However, that being said, I also completely and totally agree with the Sorority in the above mentioned article. The college was wrong to kick them off of campus for being exclusive. I was under the impression that was the whole point of a Fraternity/Sorority…to bring likeminded/bodied groups together.

Take the following definition of a Fraternity for example.

Fra-ter-ni-ty (Noun) 1. Society for college men. A social society for men who are students at a college or university, with a name consisting of individually pronounced Greek letters. 2. People with something in common. A group of people with something in common, for example, being in the same job or sharing the same pastime, i.e. the banking fraternity.

Now you can see, by definition these groups are meant to be exclusive and private. No one outside of these clubs has any right what so ever to dictate who can and cannot be within its fold.

Why is it that there can be fraternities/Sororities, Choirs, Scholarships, Colleges, Cruises etc all catering to a specific minority such as Blacks, Women, Homosexuals, Democrats, Republicans etc etc…yet when these women decide that their members are not the kind of members that they wish to have in their private club, they are sensationalized in the media and cast out of their college’s charter?

I personally don’t care if they are sacrificing chickens to the gods of wine service under the blue moon on the seventh day of the seventh month….the bottom line is that they should have the right to do it. I am also not just talking about the rights of a simple sorority to remain exclusive....I am speaking for the rights of every private institution. Should we start handing out our UNCF scholarships to Caucasians because a group of them felt slighted? Should we be forced to hire overweight playboy/playgirl models for our centerfolds? Hey I'm a bit overweight myself, and I think that I'm damn sexay....but I also realize that you don't want to see my rotund ass in your nudie mags. 

Our society has stuck their noses into every facet of our lives, in every way we are living in a fishbowl with little to no personal freedom to do what we would really like to do. Without at least wondering what people might think about it, or who you might be offending.
