Birth of a Timmy?

Oh God I hope not!

However, I finally gave in and signed my eldest up for an account on XBox Live as part of his gift set for maing his confirmation today. Fortunately, in setting up the account, I had the options to set up all kinds of family settings for his account, and was able to secure him from the rest of the network and only be visable and accessible to people on his friends list which, fortunately enough, I need to approve before any are added. I really need to tip my hat to Microsoft for making the system very friendly for a parent who is introducing their child to the net and online gaming.

Now, let the real training begin to teach him how to act online so that he doesn't, as the title suggested, turn into a Timmy.

Rock On!!!

I don't normally pre-order games, but rather wait for a game to come out and then gather in some first-hand gamer feedback. Yes, you can get preview information from the various gaming sites across the internet. Yes, you can check out all the developer released teasers and news releases written to tempt us gamers out of our hard earned money. And yes, you can troll the message boards for the fanbois and their ravings about the next end-all-be-all that's coming. However, first hand experience by the 'average Joe' gamer is usually my litmus test of whether a game is worth buying, or passing on.

But, I violated my own rule recently in pre-ordering Guitar Hero II for the 360. Over the past XMas season, I was hung up for a while in a Best Buy where they had the PS2 version of the game running. I gave it a run through and was impressed. When my boys heard it was coming to the 360, they immediately started the begging. So, being the sucker...er, awesome father I am, I went and put the order in and am awaiting the delivery of the game and 2 guitars straight from Red Octane. But…was it going to be worth it in the end?

Well, today that question was answered. While again on the routine pilgrimage to Best Buy, what do I see but a kiosk with the 360 version of Guitar Hero II up and running. Down goes the purchase I was going to make, and up comes the guitar. I dial in “Sweet Child of Mine”, and am almost instantly ported back so many years when it first came out, back when MTV played videos, back when Rock was really Rock. HOLY SHIT was it awesome. Graphics are much more refined and fresh than the PS2 version, the sound was top notch, and the gameplay was the same that I remembered from a few months ago.

April 3rd can’t come soon enough. Who else is looking forward to this title?

Scumbag of the Day

Today’s SotD comes from the fabulous city of Chicago where a 250 pound police officer decided it was his day to beat the living snot out of a 115 pound woman. Why you ask? Because she decided, in her professional opinion as a bartender, that this dick had enough to drink. Gee…ya’ think?
Karolina Obrycka, who suffered injuries to her head, arms and ribs, had cut him off because he was drunk, fighting with other patrons and trying to buy rounds of shots without any money, she told investigators.
After the Feb. 19 beating at a Northwest Side bar, someone came into the bar before last call and offered her money to forget about the attack, Cook County prosecutors said Wednesday in court.
Prosecutors charged Abbate, a 38-year-old tactical officer, with felony aggravated battery late Tuesday—a week after Chicago police officials had quietly filed a misdemeanor battery charge on March 14.

Sources familiar with the investigation said police had preemptively charged Abbate before the Cook County State's Attorney's Office had completed its investigation, and prosecutors immediately took steps to upgrade the misdemeanor charge after they learned about it Monday.

Prosecutors are looking into whether multiple police officers threatened to arrest the victim and bar owner on trumped-up charges if they didn't drop the case, sources said.
Sounds to me like a few of Chicago’s finest are going to be short of some work in the foreseeable future, or worse – trade their badge for a “Bubba’s Bitch” plaque in the joint.  God I hope it’s the later.

Tiger Woods '07...

...through the eyes of a 6-year old.

  • It's fun when the ball goes "splash".
  • Playing in the sand isn't just for the beach.
  • Color corrdinating your outfit is for girls. Bright orange belongs on the golf course.
  • It's more fun for a ball to curve than go straight.
  • Aiming? Huh?
  • The "I did bad" animations are more funny than the "I did good" animations.

and finally,

  • Nothing, NOTHING is better than when a spectator catches a tee shot in the gonads.

"Hey chickie...care to see my putter?"
