Kitchen Remodel Update

Ok, so with the new cabinets, we decided to add and have to fix:

• New stainless over the range microwave
• New stainless double door fridge (not planned)
• New faucet w/ sink. The old faucet was trashed during hook up...(not planned)
• Fix tile floor - they fucked it up putting in the cabinets. 2" gap between the tile and the cabinets....
• LOTS of wall repair

I also decided to paint (tan-walls greentea-accent) the entry way next to the kitchen and side door. All we need is a new stove and the kitchen appliances will be all stainless - yeah. I just love the look. I went with a natural oak finish on the cabinets and the counter has a black marble look, so all of this together looks sharp. Currently, this house is our biggest investment. I hope this truly increases the value like "they" claim.

BIG StepParent RANT

Ok Ok, sooooo I need to take a deep breath and remember why Im in this situation. I love my husband A TON, I love my stepsons a ton, and most definitely love our son. SOOOOO... The two boys get back from a week long Disney World vacation with their mother and Grandma last Tuesday. They get dropped off to us upon return at 9:00 pm  and immediately say, "Hi, We havent had any dinner." Well we missed you guys too. So off to McDonalds I go. They eat and go to bed. They stay with us for Wed. and Thur. night and then go back with their mother on Friday. They wanted to come back for a while on Saturday because we were remodeling our kitchen and we had some friends over to help, who also have kids their age and they all wanted to play. Their mother was going to pick them up at 10:00 pm, but never showed. We dropped them off at her mothers house where she is currently living by 11:15 pm Saturday night. They stay with her on Sunday night and make their way back to us Monday morning at 9:30 am. She wanted them back for the 4th (or at least her mother did), so they were suppose to go back to her. They found out we were grilling out and doing some other stuff and decide they want to stay. They call their mother and she is still sleeping at 10:00 am on a Tuesday morning. They tell thier Grandma they want to stay and she says that their mom will call them back to let them know what is going on...we never hear shit. After a feast, my in-laws took them to see fire works and they get dropped off at home at 11:00 pm. First words out of their mouth, Dad can we call mom and see if we can go with her? First word out of my mouth....UMMMM NO. I have tried to warn my husband that straying to far from the schedule will eventually bite us in the ass....now dont get me wrong, I have no problem with them getting to see thier parents a little extra whenever, BUT, can I call her at 11:00 at night?  Lets not forget these boys are only 8 and 9 - soon to be 9 and 10. Not to mention that my husband was just leaving for work (3rd shift) and I have to be the one to tote them around and deal with all the lack of communication on her part. So once again, I am the evil steppmom who shouldnt have a say in shit. Because at the moment that I dont give them what they want I am only the person who is married to their father. They forget the person who has raised them since they were 3 and 4 when their mother was wasted and didnt want shit to do with them. In and out of their lives for 3-4 months at a time...this last 2 years is a streak only because she had a crack problem with a boyfriend, racked up a couple of felonies with her boyfriend, had another baby with her boyfriend, and then proceeded to have him arrested and took a plea bargain for her crimes. So for the last 2 years she has been in the picture because she lives with mom (for free and gets public aid) and well they go to see Grandma and thus they see mom. It is sad how much she has ruined their lives and continues to ruin their lives. We try to keep things stable...during school their is never any compromise and now that we are compromising with the summer schedule - we know why their will never be compromise during the school season.

 

Man, I love my husband.

Becoming an adult---

In the last two weeks we:

Bought our first "adult" bedroom set. I have never had an entire set that matched. A local furniture maker had an amazing sale - items normally $8,000 were like $2,000. It was to good to pass up. This led to buying a new area rug, curtains, window treatments, another xbox 360, and ceiling fan. The fan is awesome it has a heater built in for the winter. IT BETTER WORK!! The upstairs gets freezing... My husband is trying for a 32" plasma or atleast a flat panel -- keep twisting honey, my arm isnt hurting yet... I mean we have a 27" and it isnt a huge room. It is like having a 52" widescreen already...

Put a privacy fence around our backyard. The neighbor behind us has a nasty pitbull that seems to be getting out more and more. Also, our next door neighbor is becoming a daytime nudist.

Are remodeling our kitchen. We are moving our stove, dishwasher, and fridge to different locations. We are also replacing all cabinets and putting in a huge pantry. All of this will be necessary to help with the growth of our 3 sons. The 10 year old already wears a mens 9 1/2 shoe and has a mens 34 waist line. We go through 5 gallons of milk a week and the food bill is insane. Thus the extra pantry and cabinet space is a must... it will almost be a whole new kitchen. 

Had to replace our central air. (This one was unexpected)

Tomorrow, we are buying a car. It is a 98 Toyota Avalon LXS - fully loaded. Pretty Pretty.   So into the adult Sedan life we go... either way, it has to be better than the adult minivan life. I had to trade my f---ing Ford Explorer in on a RED FORD WINDSTAR. I had never felt so poopy in my life.

 

I have never felt so grown in my life. I wish I could say that we paid for all of this because we won the lotto...

Thanks Grandpa, you will be loved for all of our lives and you will live on with us forever...

Any Stepparents Out There?

Just wondered if we had any amongst ourselves. Im quite sure we do and I just wanted to reach out and say....

I understand.

Sometimes I wish someone could just look at me and say those two words - and truly mean it.

I love all of my kids just the same. I have been helping my husband raise them since they were 3 and 4. The boys are now 10 and 9 (in August). I mean it is not like I just now entered into their lives, but man this is a tough job. We have had custody and they have lived with us for the last 5 years, but it was a long road to reach. Their mother is in and out of their lives, continues to not work, continues to get into trouble with the law, drugs etc AND continues to refuse to help out financially.

Anyway, the boys are with their Grandma (her mom) and their mother at Disney World right now. Must be nice.

 

Just needed to vent...thanks.
