One of those days

Ever have one of those days? Well today was one of those days. I am glad tomorrow is Friday.

I think I am going to go on Halo and kill some things.

YAY!

Thank you

I know it is a bit early but I want to thank all the veterans for their service to this country and it's people. I know there are basically two days set aside to thank veterans for their service but I think it should be said as often as possible. There are not enough thank yous in the world to let a veteran know how much their service means to me.

Thank you again for all you do and have done. It literally means my world to me.

Amy

Go Vote!

So I have been voting since I was old enough to do so. I take that responsibility very seriously. I have to say, though, that I have noticed that this presidential campain, I feel that more people have been actively involved in promoting the one they want to win. There have been people out with "Honk for...." signs, promoting the one they want to win, I have had people at my door for most every Saturday for the past 3 weeks and then today, I get home and I have a hanger on my door reminding me to vote tomorrow with one of the candidates on it.

Now, do I enjoy being awakened to talk about politics on a Saturday morning? Absolutely not. But I answer the door every time because those people are getting out there and they are promoting what they believe in. If that isn't what our men and women fought for and are fighting for I don't know what is.

I don't care who you vote for. All I care about is that you go and vote. That is what is important. Men and women have died so that you....yes YOU, can go and vote. So make their sacrifices worth something. Vote. Let your voice be heard!

I know I will.

Snow

So tonight, we have snow on the way. Will it be much? Probably not. But it is snow and I am uber excited! Maybe a 2 hour delay? Maybe just a dusting. But it is still snow!

YAY!!!!!!

Everyone do the snow dance!

My sad story

Ok so maybe it is only sad to me. But am going to share anyway. I came home this weekend to be with my family as well as ride my bike. I took my bike out this morning, got all ready to ride, knowing I was going to have to let it warm up since it has been so cold. I turned on the fuel on, and got ready to go. I put it in neutral, turned on the run button, pulling in the clutch, hit the start button and.....it coughed and then clicked.

Now anyone that knows anything about cars knows that the clicking sound is a horrible, horrible sound. Well it is the same for bikes. My battery was dead. So I had to take off the back seat and then my seat to get to the battery. We tried to jump it but no luck. Called Harley and to get a new battery, get it taken in, and installed. $128.00. The battery is smaller than the seat on my bike and it costs $99.95. So now I have to figure out how to get it there so that they can put the battery in. I asked them how easy it would be to do but because of my bike, well....of course it is one of the harder ones with the negative hook up right down in the middle of a mass of wires. I guess I am just going to pay Harley to fix it because if anything is wrong then I know they will back their work.

My riding season is running down and I am thinking it just got much, MUCH shorter. -sighs- Dang it.

One day I am going to learn how to put pictures in here so that I can put in a pic of my bike. :-) See you guys tomorrow night.

A gripe

Hey all,

Writing another rant so just sit back, relax and enjoy as much as you can.

Tonight I was watching Dr. Phil. They were talking about people that are addicted to gaming. Now I don't feel it was clarified that people that are addicted are just that.....addicted. The game itself is not evil. Dr Phil did point that out ONCE but I don't feel it was enough. They talked about the young man that shot himself after Everquest and the mom outright said the game was to blame and that they hadn't heard the last of her.

I guess what I don't understand is why are people blaming the games? It isn't the games but the people behind it. Games can be very addicting, I completely understand that but it is not the games fault if you can't control yourself and you are on too often. People that shoot themselves because of Everquest CANNOT blame the game. A person that shoots themselves needed help. That simple. No matter what the mother says there was something wrong there in the mind of the player. Did the video game possibly trigger it? That could be a possibility. But to blame the game? I think not. At that point, the family or friends are making excuses for their loved one. Is it a tragedy that their loved one died? Absolutely. Is it solely the game's fault? No.

It bothers me that people are blaming games for the mental sicknesses of their family members. To me that is like blaming the car for a person that loves to drag race and ends up getting killed. I guess my point is that people should not blame games for something going on in their loved one's life. The game can affect a person's life but it is not mind control. The person HAS the choice. The game does not MAKE anyone do anything.

If a person is addicted they absolutely need help. I am not downplaying that at all but DON'T blame the game. That is silly. People can't take something they don't understand and blame it. That is what has happened in the past in history and now it is repeating itself again with the games being the new witch. Witch trials anyone?

Real Lives

It is interesting to read or learn about people's lives outside of the gaming realm. Sometimes people tend to forget that people aren't just the gamertag. There are other things behind that gamer tag, including a real person, with a real life, and real problems.

I always find it interesting to read about those that I play with. To find out about their lives and who they are away from the machine. So since I enjoy it, i am going to pretend you enjoy it and tell you some information about myself.

My name is Amy and I am the oldest of 2 in my family. Some of you got to meet my brother last night. I am 31 and he is 27. My father is a minister and my mother is an adminstrative assistant to the Superintendent of a school district near us. I was born in Louisville, KY and then started the moving around 4 years old. I have lived in Kentucky, Missouri, Texas, and now New Hampshire. I have my Master's degree in Special Education and Elementary Education and I am currently a special education teacher for grades Kindergarten to 2nd grade. I am the one that is called in for extreme behaviors and have dealt with many violent children in the past (and yes, even at that age they can be violent). I greatly enjoy working with those students and I love my job.

I own a black Chevy Cavalier, that is paid off, and just this past summer, bought a 883CXL Harley Davidson. It is AWESOME. It was used when I bought it from Harley but it had everything that I wanted. It had Mustange seats, a leather piece for the tank, removable saddle bags and specialized pipes so that it is loud. I LOVE it. My brother got me into Harley's when he bought his Anniversary edition last year. I took the safety course before I bought it to make sure I had the coordination to drive a bike.

I am a HUGE fan of the Boston Red Sox and went to my first game this year and then was able to go to a second. There is NOTHING like going to a Sox game and if you live in the area and you haven't....then go. Being there is an amazing experience. I am not a football fan though. I have Patriots stuff and I will watch a game if I am passing through the room but I can't sit and watch it. Don't get it, don't want to. To me it is modern gladiators without the final death or skimpy clothing....so I see no reason to watch. :-P

I am currently single. I think that is because I am anti social and don't like change. Or so I am told. -shrugs- Whatever. -laughs- I do have a cat though named Bella who is spoiled and antisocial like me. She loves me, I love her....others come in and she runs. A lot like me. Whoa.

I love movies, old and new. I LOVE to read and love the Dark Hunter series and the new Twilight Series. I love to game (duh) and greatly enjoy writing.

So that is beasically me. Hope I didn't scare you guys. :-) Have a great one all.

HaloTards

So I have been a member of a couple of clans in the past. But I have to tell you....I think I have found home. Halotards is amazing. There are great people in the group that just want to play Halo. There is no drama, no backstabbing, no petty crap. It is just playing halo and having a good time. This is the first clan I have been in that truly feels like family. There is joking going on, teasing of each other, and a true friendship there that can only be created over time and through killing people together. -wipes a tear from my eye- It is a beautiful thing to kill together.

So if you are looking for a clan, with no drama.....

If you are looking for a clan with great people....

If you are looking for a clan, no matter what your gaming skills are......

Come visit Halotards.

You will be absolutely glad you did.

25 things I learned from video games

I thought these were funny so please enjoy!!

Amy

25 things I've learned from video games............

.......ON LIFE:

When you are born, you drop out of the sky (a stork?) and are completely invincible for a short time.

All martial arts women wear revealing clothes and have great bodies.

All martial arts men have rippling muscles and angry expressions.

If someone other than you dies, they disappear.

Whenever huge, fat, evil men are about to die, they begin flashing red or yellow.

No matter how long you fight, you can always fight again.

Your death is reversible, just keep an eye on those icons.

Carpe diem! You still have lives left!

.......ON PROBLEM-SOLVING:

There is no problem that cannot be overcome by violence.

If it moves, KILL IT!

Shoot everything. If it blows up or dies, it was evil. If it doesn't, try picking it up--- it was probably a bonus.

You can smash things and get away with it.
A. Smashing things doesn't hurt.
B. Many nice things are hidden inside other things.

200-to-1 odds against you: NOT a problem.

.......ON DAILY ROUTINE:

If you see food lying on the ground, eat it.

Money is frequently found lying on the streets.

You never run out of ammunition, just grenades.

Piloting any vehicle is simple and requires no training.

When driving, you can knock other vehicles off the road and get away with it.

When racing vehicles, do not worry if your vehicle crashes and explodes. A new vehicle will appear in its place.

Ninjas are common, and fight in public frequently.

All shopkeepers carry high-tech weaponry.

The operation of a weapon is a simple and obvious procedure.

.......ON ENEMIES & FRIENDS:

The enemy always leaves weapons lying around for no reason other than to aid you in defeating them.

Gang members frequently all look the same, and often have the same names.

As a rule of thumb; Cybertrons are our friends, Human(oid)s are not .

My Public Service Annoucement

The following is a public service announcement made by me, approved by me. :-)

When driving down the highway, DO NOT stay in the inside lane. MOVE out of the way so that faster cars can pass. It irritates the bejeebers out of me when people drive in that lane as if it is just a lane to be poking around in. If you are moving and you aren't holding up traffic then by all means, keep going but don't just stay in the lane. Eventually get over. There are ALWAYS people out there travelling faster than you. Doesn't make their traveling faster right but just get out of the way.

Stay to the outside lane when travelling and all travelers will be much happier.

This once again is a message by me approved by me. -grins-

Love to all,

Amy

Aren't we allowed to be human?

So this is something I have been noticing not just here but since I have been playing on Live. It even happens in "real life" and I thought I would bring it up. So stick with me through my minor bitch session.

I have noticed recently that if a person is an easy going and a generally happy person as soon as they show another emotion like being upset, having a rough night, even getting angry there are two responses from people: 1. Concern 2. Irritation

Now I like to think of myself as empathetic. I am normally pretty good at telling if a person is doing well or if they are upset. And when a friend of mine is upset I am concerned. But then there are the people that get angry, as if the upset person doesn't have the right to be upset. The comments are "what is up their butt?" (always high class), "I can't believe the drama", or "Gawd...people need to just chill."

I think many have a hard time remembering that there are things outside of the Live rooms we are all involved in. Many of us have families, jobs, and outside lives and those affect us through the games. Those pressures don't just stop when we turn on our 360s. People need to remember that. Some come on Live to relax and try and forget things and just lose themselves in the game for a minute and when people are quiet or not 'themselves" then others can harrass them and then a safe haven becomes a place where it is no longer safe to go.

So.....I guess what I am saying is everyone needs to remember that Live is not our LIFE. Everyone on Live is a person, a human, someone that has problems, emotions, and outside influences. If you see a friend that seems upset then show them support by asking if they are ok but don't harrass them. Give them the room they need and be a supportive friend.

Thanks for listening.

Too Old to Play?

I love this place. It is great to find a group of people that are not 12 playing Halo. Apparently my thought that Halo was an adult game has been proven wrong since many parents allow their 11 year olds to play and use language even the harshest person on the earth wouldn't use. (Was going to say sailor but that kinda gives sailors a bad image)

So besides being a girl I am also 31. Not old by any standards (or so I like to think) but older than a lot that are "stereotypically" playing video games. And yet if anyone somehow finds out my age it is always "Well...aren't you too old to play video games?" or "oh....you still enjoy that?" Well YES I do. Everyone has hobbies and why can't mine be videogames? It isn't hurting anyone and it is far less expensive then some of the hobbies people have. Plus there are other hobbies that follow people from childhood up into adult hood: riding bikes, building with legos, collection certain toys, models, etc. And yet there isn't such a huge deal made with those. Or at least I don't think so.

Either way....I don't think anyone is too old to do something they enjoy! Dang it....if a 101 year old man wants to ride a roller coaster then let him! If a 110 year old woman wants to bungee jump...let her. We have earned our way to where we are: we work and we work hard. We have the right to some fun and if that means playing video games then PLAY ON!!

-steps off soap box-

This has been a public annoucement by me, approved by me.
