Imagination

I was just thinking about when I was growing up, we lived in an extremely small rural community where there was one broken caution light and one general store that you could go buy a "Cokie" Cola and moon pie and a few grocery type items. We had a television, but it only picked up three channels and other than that there was no other ready made entertainment. So, my brothers and I had to entertain ourselves. We would do the usual cops and robbers sort of stuff, but being 5 years difference between each of us, they outgrew this make-believe entertainment well before I did. So, I learned to use my favorite thing in the world, and that was my imagination. It was free, plentiful and I could play by myself or if friends were over I could let them in on it. It was better than any board game or television program. It would scare me to death, or make me laugh, or allow me an escape whenever I needed a break from the real world. As I got older, I slowly stopped using my imagination and every once in awhile, Id think about it with a fondness that we reserve for the best childhood memories. The rational, logical adult mind seems to fight imagination with all its might, and its hard to recapture it once it is gone. I think thats why I love gaming and reading so much. I can access a magical world where anything is possible. And though that is wonderful, I still think Im gonna make a bigger effort to dust off my imagination, grease the wheels and take it for a spin.

Team Players

Its amazing what a difference it makes to be on a team with folks that play as a team. No matter what youre doing or playing, the sheer pleasure of being with a group of people working together toward a common goal is a great feeling. Whether winning or losing, if the team youre on works together it still turns out to be an enjoyable experience.
Thats why Ive enjoyed so much this site and the people Ive met and played with(for the most part ). I love gaming, but its so much more fun when you do it with good sports that just dont want to win, they want to play.

Happy Day After Valentines Day

This has probably been mentioned to death, but I thought Id just say that I dont understand how anyone can think that their significant other has to spend a fortune on Valentines day to prove or symbolize their love.

I always enjoy getting presents, but for a man (which is who is usually expected to plunk down a load) to pay 60-100 bucks for flowers that normally would cost halve of that, or to expect extravagant gifts of jewelry or hundreds of dollars toward whatever it is that proves your love for your significant other, is ridiculous.

Just as most holidays, Valentines Day has gotten out of control. If you got put in the dog house because you didnt do enough for your significant other, then I really feel for you. Stryker and I normally celebrate Valentines Day at home.

We have a nice dinner and exchange cards and maybe a small gift. I got Stryker a book hes been wanting, and he got me an Itunes gift certificate and chocolates. No diamonds, no 2 dozen flowers, no expensive night on the town where we would pay too much for food we waited way to long to eat and booze that is marked up beyond belief. Just us, having a relaxing evening and enjoying each others company. To me, thats love and thats what should be celebrated. When you can enjoy each others company without the big show and frills and payments.

So, to all of yall, I hope you had a good one. If you didnt, I hope you get out of the dog house soon

Different Personalities and Gaming Styles

As this site has grown, more and more personalities have been added to the mix. Some of these personalities are breaths of fresh air, while others not so much. With different personalities, comes different ways of gaming and communicating. Some are more enjoyable than others, some are not enjoyable at all. My personal preferences are not necessary the same as the site majority, so I try to participate in the areas I find pleasure in. This, after all is what gaming and the site should be about. After my gaming and site experiences over the past few months, I thought about what I do and don't enjoy about gaming and the site.

Many people enjoy strong, smack-talking competition. For me a barrage of bullshit and egotistical chest thumping by one or more members of the team I'm on or the opposing team is not what I consider enjoyable. Stupidity is fine in small doses, but wears on the nerves quickly and takes away from the game. Many gamers enjoy this type of play and love to cut-down, humiliate and do whatever they can to reinforce their great talent and abilities. All the power to them, but it's just not my thing.

As for competition, I don't mind loosing, but really hate to be stomped repeatedly. When more competitive members team up together to form a kick-ass team that can annihilate any opposition, the less I want to play. To be in a match, and on a team that is comprised of players equal in my abilities, or that has a nice combination or range of skills is great fun. For this team to be pitted against a team that is comprised of elite gaming gods that can take out the other team almost as quickly as they can re-spawn, not so much fun. Tack on the game lasting more than 10 or 15 minutes and it's downright hellacious.

As for the site, the topics and comments are expansive. It's kinda like going to a yard sale. You have to pick and choose what you are looking for and try to find it. I used to read a thread and find that I had something to add, but not so much anymore. Many of the posts are non-sense that I just have no interest. I still read threads to help moderate the site, but find myself posting less and less. Most of this is because the site has grown so much and the style and topics of posts have become more varied. I know that many members love this, and that's great. That's what comes with diversity.

This site is a great place to be able to come and meet gamers with similar interests and form friendships with them. It is also a place where adults should be able to enjoy and express themselves and their opinions on gaming and whatever issues are posted in forums and threads. With so many personalities in one place, there will be clashes. Some that feel others act childish, and others that feel that some just can't take a joke, or get too worked up over things. Just keep in mind we all have our own way of finding pleasure in things. But boil it all down, we all enjoy gaming. We may enjoy it in different ways, and some may be more hard-core than others, but whether you agree or disagree on how, what or why we game, just try to respect each other.
