An issue we've been discussing.

Ok it’s time for a rant….This one about, but not focused solely on stupid people.   I know the world is covered with them, but we have started questioning our ability to live in a country where each self righteous drop out claims a right to assault your personal freedoms without you having any ability to defend yourself.  In a place where I have to be disgusted and offended because a BMW driving baby factory must express herself by very publicly (more in the form of an exhibitionist)  Plug her kid in to breast feed 4 times over a single half hour meal because she can. That has become the reason for doing anything recently….”because I can, and you can’t stop me.”   Where Politics are THE reason why families break up, or family members refuse to talk to each other….where a choice to do nothing is universally determined to be the wrong choice….

Honestly we are tired of it. This started an interesting discussion of if we were to move, or find it more profitable to move elsewhere, where would that be…we have both agreed that Canada has a lot to offer, we have also thought of Australia, and my personal favorite New Zealand. Well, I want to know what all of you think. here are the criteria we have…where would you pick….
  1. Must have at least 90% English speaking public. We can learn a foreign language, but want to avoid a mandatory, immediate need to learn.
  2. We would like to have to option to live in a small town area but not be far from a larger populated area.(an accountant is not much use if there are no people)
  3. Would like to avoid communist areas, but we would not mind a Monarchy.
  4. Freedoms are important, and a (relatively) uncensored press would be preferable.
  5. An industrialized country is a must, sorry, no Third World countries…unless we can retire and live like royalty on almost nothing, and they meet the above criteria.
  6. A place where we don’t have to worry about having our assets nationalized.
  7. A place where we don’t have to worry about a natural disaster hitting even if it is ONLY every 2 years or so.

My choice would be the North West side of the South Island of New Zealand, and the wife would like Canada….how is BC, if there’s anyone familiar with the area?

I would choose England or Australia. Canada as my third resort.

I live near BC in Washington...about an hour 1/2 from the border...it's pretty, green, but cold in the winters...they get more snow than washington, but some people don't mind the snow.

I would choose New Zealand tho'...cooler culture, good economy, really pretty....and SAILING!

I would choose Switzerland or maybe Amsterdam

I forgot the other big reason...there is no place to get a good drink anymore....my Bombay Saphire Martini actually had a line through the middle of it where the water settled to the bottom....I was not happy....even thought the top half was quite nice.

I'd say, you just described the Netherlands.

1) It's a Monarchy;
2) Everybody speaks English, even if you manage to learn Dutch somehow.
3) Most businesses are American already, save a few Japanese ones, and the odd Dutch companies.
4) When there's a hard wind out, we think the world is coming to an end.
5) We have nothing but industry.

Find a place in Haarlem and take the bus to Amsterdam to work. Shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to and 30 minutes fro.
