20 years of collage and I may actually graduate...for now! I may have to go back to keep the loans in deferment...but this friday I will be a Doctor of Pharmacy!?! I think that this may be the final seal of the apocalypse

genuine advantage

OK, I have 4 (four) LEGITIMATE copies of windows XP on CD. I only have 2 computers with windows XP installed. I want to see of one of my other computers would work with Vista. But, vista upgrade adviser won't work without running windows genuine advantage... and my Extra legit copies of windows won't work... they won't let me install them because they were installed before... I know I can probably call M$ to transfer a license but I just want to see if the damn box will work with vista so I can use it as a media center pc through my xbox 360 to my TV.

What a pain in the ass.

DISNEY SEQUELS SUCK

I love disney movies, don't get me wrong, but EVERY sequel that they do is just a mindless grab at the fiscal viability of the "first" movie. I watched "pirates of the caribbean, dead man's chest" tonight, the ending was just about as good as Halo 2....

Fun with Radioshack

As I mentioned in the forums, ( Wii Wireless Sensor Bar ) I built a replacement for the stock bar that doesn't have to have to be connected to the Wii, YEAH! But I was quickly reminded why I hated soldering all those years ago. BOO!

In my defense, I failed to fry anything (none of the magic smoke got out) and it works. But Good Lord, a project that should have taken 30 minutes took like 3 hours?!? I was using a large soldering iron that should never get near electronics of any type because that was all I had and so had to fix some of my work...

Oh well, like my chief told me in the navy, "the bigger the blob, the better the job."

OK yesterday was my birthday but EB Games got in a couple of wii's today just about the time I left for my lunch break!!! I got the last one! of course now I have to get a wifi adapter and another wii-mote...but hey... They tried to sell me a ps3 too, but alas, no interest at the inn.

Halo3 Beta :(

I have a deep fondness for Halo so I went to the beta test sign-up to get my shot... but then I reconsidered. I realized that between work and school (and wife,) I don't have time to play the games I have now. I figure that if I did get to be a tester, I would not be able to play enough to give appropriate feedback (and I am not that great at video games so my feedback would be lacking anyway) and I would be taking a spot from someone that might do a good job. So let it be known, I hear-by give up my Beta position and all privilages there-with to someone more worthy than myself.

tree house

for the one or so person that followed my long-gone blog, here is a tie-in.

this time last year I hired a tree cutting service to cut down a tree so that it would NOT fall on the neighbor's house.... subsiquently I built a $300,000.00 tree house...

well today, I hired a DIFFERENT tree cutting service to get rid of some more dead trees. No new tree house, but I lost my HD satellite system.

Both times, the PROFESSIONALS said the job would be difficult (and more expensive) because they would have to climb the tree and cut it in sections to prevent it from falling on something... and BOTH times the PROFESSIONALS did not do that, and BOTH times they fell it on something.

next time, I am just going to hire some guy with a case of dynamite, can't be any worse.

Best Buy Blues

I like Best Buy, they have good products at good prices... But in my opinion, their stock just dropped considerably. I bought a Geek Squad brand UPS (uniteruptable power supply.) I bought their biggest unit because I need to protect 3 computers. the information is not in the included manual, on-line at their website or in the included software, so I contacted 1-800-geeksquad to ask how to send the UPS' shutdown signal to all 3 pc's on a loss of power.

the rep told me that I could as long as the pc's are networked (which they are), and that they did exactly this in their call center. she then told me that she could not help me but that I could contact another department who could. I contacted that dept and was told that the information was not available but that I could either pay a Geek Squad Tech to come to my house, or pay for phone support and they would get it "up and running".

This seems to be a shady buisness practice, to sell a product, keeping setup information OUT of the manual, and then charge for the information. Does Microsoft own Best Buy?

My Lucky Day

Well, Thursday I went into EB Games to browse and wish I could afford anything. I accidently bought a year subscription to game informaer magazine?!? I picked up the magazine without reading the HUGE sign above the rack that it was a promotional and not just a mag. Oh well, alls well that ends well. With the subscription, I got a bonus card and some extra-bonus coupons for trade-in games. I decided to go through my xbox 1 titles and trade in 17 titles I was relatively sure that I would never play again. I expected to get about $40 for all of them and put that toward Dead Rising. once all of the bonuses and coupons were added up I got over $100 bucks for them all. I got Dead Rising, Chrome Hounds, and the DOA4 arcade stick for $45. I was stoked!!! EB Games is my new best friend, at least for a little while.

And regarding the DOA4 arcade stick, I haven't yet used it to play DOA. It is the best peripheral I have bought. It is GREAT for the XBL arcade games. and the price has dropped, It is now selling for $39.99. Anyone that plays the retro arcade should rush out today and find one!!!! The only complaint, not wireless.
