Picked up the album too, good stuff.

Will be only the second, and probably LAST time I get to see them.

They were the reason I picked up the guitar.

Busted!

For the first time I got pulled over by an officer while riding my bike.

It was near the end of my ride, just a mile frome home Sunday morning, when a cop scared the crap out of me by coming up from behind and turning his siren on. I nearly fell off my bike then. He could have just pulled up next to me and asked me to stop.

At first I just thought he would be flying by head'n somewhere on an call but when I pulled over he pulled up next to me and proceeded to chew me out, threatening with a $120 ticket.

What I had done, which I know I had done, was coast through a four way stop when there was no traffic.

Now, this is a very small town. minimal traffic. Normally I would just pull up real slow, maybe balance for a sec cuz i hate to have to unclip myself and then proceed on through.

Well this time I just went on through.

But I think I know why he was so testy now for I found out today that Saturday morning, the deputy sheriff was killed on his bike ride (on the same road I ride).

He was struck from behind by a motor vehicle.

I'm Back! (knock on wood)

It has been two months but I think I have finally kicked the knee and hip problem. Sure did take longer than I had hoped. I have been going through physical therapy about twice week for the past eight weeks. They worked mostly on the tibial band in my left leg. A specialist also evaluated my running mechanics. The specialist suggested my last pair of shoes may have provided more lateral support than I needed. I require more medial support and stability she says so last weekend I purchased me new pair of shoes and so far I feel it is making a difference. At least I'm not experiencing any pain.

Unfortunatley I've already missed one Triathlon event but I'm gunning for the second, the Topeka Tinman on Saturday June 14th.
http://www.topekatinman.com/index.htm

Short Course Triathlon
Swim: 300 Yards
Bike: 8.24 Miles
Run: 5 Kilometers

It’s a short short course. Probably a good thing for me coming off injury. Luckily I was able to continue biking and swimming while not able to run. So the first two legs of the race I'm not worried about. I just don’t know what shape I'm going to be in for that 5K run.

KU vs Memphis

I am so glad that KU whipped up on them Tarheels Saturday night. I was so tired of the media making headlines with the Roy Williams ties to Kansas and how Hansborough was God's gift to basketball. (Thank you refs for finally calling him out on this traveling at the end!)

My feeling was that if we had lost to UNC then it would just have compounded things. Now that we have prevailed, I hope that puts it all to rest. Its been 5 years and this is Bill Self's team. It's over. Please, the Media, let it rest!

And I cant believe that after out running the Tarheels, who the media claimed noeone could do, they are saying the same about Memphis.

I saw the media coverage for Memphis Sunday and they sure sounded confident. I hope KU can give them the same punch in the mouth they gave UNC. I'm just worred about their legs, after all that enegery spent against the Tarheels.

Just can't catch a break....

Boy, have I had some tough luck this past year, injury after injury.

It started with the frist Triathlon last season and now just when things were going good and I was feeling healthy and getting excited again I've sustained a knee injury.

This one though is more severe than the other aches and pains.

1.) Pulled Calf and continued to have troubles with tightness in both calfs running and biking all summer long (finally over that)

2.) Left hamstring and arch in my right foot gives me problems, both of which seem to be ok now.

3.) Then my back bothered me midway throught last season and into the fall. This actually hindered me quite a bit in swimming, biking, and running.

Went to chiropractor for an alignment, and that felt great. Doing quite a bit of stretching now that seem to help a lot.

4.) For awhile now my left hip gets a sharp pain in it sometimes when I run. It's not always there, just a nagging nuisance once in awhile.

5.) And now my knee is in pain whenever I run, hinders me from running at all.

It happend after i had finished a 4.5 mile jog Monday. It did not bother me at all during the run, and it was a good run. But later that afternoon just walking around the house it started to hurt and that evening at my daughters soccer practice I could not even run with the kids at all.

I put on a wrap and it still hurt to walk on Tuesday but was able to swim with minimal discomfort. (I did not have to kick to swim. I just worked on my stroke, arm strength and form).

Wednesday and Thursday it felt fine. I was able swim and bike.

However, today I tried to test it out on an easy slow jog and it didnt take but a half mile for it to start hurting again. So I immediately stopped. I was able to go hop on a bike with no problems at all. So It must be the jarring from the running that cuases the pain.

Sure hope I can recover quickly from this for the first triathlon this season is May 18th, only 6 weeks away.

Get yelled at for something you did in someones dream?

So I'm lying in bed, its 3am. I'm in a light sleep and can hear the train off in the distance passing by. Its quiet, calm, even the animals are asleep when all of a sudden I'm startled by words, "WHAT, YOU DONT LIKE MY FUCKING COOKING!?!?!?!". In my confusion I simply replied, 'huh?'. Then she responds, "THEN WHY DID YOU SWITCH DISHES?". Again I go 'huh?". Then she, my wife, rolls over and everything goes quiet. I make mental note not to forget this and bring it up the next morning and we have a good laugh.

Anyone out there have to apologize to their wife for what they did in their dream?

My brothers girlfriend told me she also yells at him for things he does in her dreams, lol.

FEMALES!!!!!

Tenth prize, 1,000 Microsoft Points!

I was going through the mail yesterday when I came across what looked to be some kind of junk mail. I decided to go ahead and open it, usually something like this just gets tossed. To my suprise it was an award letter from Microsofts for the PGR4 Live Kudos Weekend from back in October '07. I was announced as one of the tenth prize winners, winning free 1,000 Microsoft Points!!!

Wahoo!

So I Immediatlely redemmed my points and pulled down Poker Smash.

Rules of Acquisition

If only we were Ferengi...

Though I'm not a KU Allumn, I do feel pride for the local team. I didnt get much sleep last night after the game and when i did i was dreaming about it. Since the KC Chumps let me down this year, it felt good to see one of my teams excel at something.

Now I probably will have to listen to the Mizzu fans here at work gripe about how VT handed KU the game, but I think KU played well. I think they were the reason for VT's troubles offensively and not just VT shooting themselves in the foot.

Now on to Big 12 baskettball. KU currenlty 13-0.

Assuming it was from a customer I'm thinking this is a sign of how my FRIDAY is going to be, busy from the get-go. But to my surprise it’s a message from the Dean at Devry University asking to speak with me about a potential Adjunct Faculty position.

Wahoo!!!

Well, back in the spring I had applied and interviewed for an adjunct faculty position. As part of the interview process I had to teach/present a topic in a classroom setting in front of two deans and several professors. I was a bit nervous (whole other comical story). I had no teaching experiences, though I had done some presentations and tech talks to fellow co-workers. My only qualification was that I had a masters degree for which I earned from the same university, acquired my bachelors there as well and they like to see alumni come back and teach.

So anyway, my point is after that initial interview I was offered a course for which I accepted but then afterwards they had to give it to another professor for he/she needed it to fulfill their fulltime requirements. They said they would call me if they had an opportunity for any summer courses but I never heard back. So enough time has passed that I've kind of forgotten about this.

But now out of the blue it looks like I may have a decision to make. Kind of excited and nervous at the same time. We (Wife and I) will have to rehash everything to make sure this is something I am still able to do. Got to do it this weekend for I am to call the Dean back on Monday.

Sandrat Trail Run

Havent bloggd in awhile, dam H3!

Anyway, it hasnt stopped me from running, completely anyways. Losing motiviation here, need help!!!!

The North Shore Trail run a couple weeks ago was a blast. First time I had done a Trail Run. That morning a cold front came in and it rained. Made the conditions prime for injury. Cold and wet, muddy trails, muddy shoes, wet rocks. The longest distance I had ran all summer was 5 or 6 miles and this run was 8.5 miles and on trails which makes it even more tough.

Anyway, so the race starts and I'm hanging in there. The most technical part of the course was in the beginning. I managed to make it through there without a scratch, just a couple of turned ankles. Watched one guy slip on an exposed tree root and then slam his chin down on a rock, ouch! That even made me cringe. After 5 miles my hips are getting sore, i'm getting old, not as flexible anymore. I managed to catch up to someone around mile 6 six and decided I would hang with him till the finish and try to out sprint him at the end. As we are getting close, I was estimating another quarter to half mile to go, I was getting fatigued. Apparently enough so that I did not even see this rock that I was going to trip over. The trail had gotten easier and I lost my focus on the ground, too busy looking up and ahead. So I tripped over a small rock and landed hard, face down on the muddy trail. I let out a loud grunt as I hit the ground, it took the wind right out of me, lol. Anyway, I got up right away and tried to catch back up to the guy I was pacing with, only to find out that right around the next corner was the finish. Dam!

I made it safely through 8.5 miles of trails just to wipe-out at the end on a stupid little rock, the only obstacle on the course for the last two miles of the race, lol. Anyway, took my 1 hour and 13 minutes to do the run. I was predicting an hour twenty or more. But when your running trails your more focussed on your footwork and obstacles than you are with your own fatigure or heavy breathing.

So this Sunday I have another Trial Run that I will do, the 15th Annual Sandrat Trail Run. It will be approximately 9.5 miles along the Kansas River on scenic, winding, and sandy trails.

Afterwards will be held a Rugrats race for the kids. Its about a mile run. My son, age 9, wants to run in that. Should be fun to watch. He did a mile long cross country run last year with the local high school cross country team and ran in under 8 minutes. I was suprised, it was a spur of the moment thing. Maybe he's inhereted his father and grandfathers running ability. ;)

Clinton Lake North Shore Trail Run

Now that the season is over for Triathlon, at least around here, its time to find something else to keep in shape for next year.

Think I'll start off with the Second Annual North Shore Trail Run

It will be held tomorrow morning, 9/15, an 8.5 mile trail run at Clinton Lake, Lawernce KS.
(Above: I'm the one coming off the timing mat with the white swim cap)

Turned out to be a very nice morning. A nice cool front came in over night. The sun was out for the swim but then the sky turned overcast and stayed cool all morning.

      Transition 2: 2:25 Transition 2: 1:55
    Run : 27:21 Pace: 7:41 Run: 25:47 Rate 7:41

It may appear just by looking at the times that I was slower than last year but the bike and run courses were lengthened.. The bike was an extra two miles. I couldnt believe it when i came out of the water for the first transition and saw that I had taken three minutes off my swim time from last year. I was feeling good and was real excited to get going on the bike leg for which I averaged two miles an hour faster from 17.5 to 19.4 and finished in almost the same amout of time of the shorter distance from last year.

Actually, according to my computer I average 20.3mph, but guess I'll have to go by their official time.

The run was the same though, the hills killed me. I focussed more on the swim and bike in my training and so my run suffered, well just didnt improve.
Maybe I can figure it out next year and get all three to improve together.

Here are some nice event photos by Action Images.

The final triathlon event of the season. I participated in this event last year.

My goal and time to beat is 1.34.59

If I'm going to improve on my time I think it will be on the bike though this course is tough. Just to give you an idea here is a how the change in elevation looks throughout the bike course.
