Surgery

Been a while since I last blogged. My daughter Jasmine had surgery on her left eye yesterday. The surgery was to correct the strabismus she had been suffering from. Strabismus is when both or one eye is not aligned correctly. It can cause double vision and headaches and prevent normal vision from developing. If left untreated in some cases it can lead to Amblyopia. That is when the brain ignores the signal coming from one or both eyes. I never knew any of that information before I found out Jasmine needed surgery.

What lead us to the ophthalmologist in the first place. Was the fact that Jasmine complained of double vision and constant headaches. After she was checked we were told we had two options, either patch her eye or surgery. The doctor told us that the eye patch would most likely not work in her case. That we could try but he wanted to schedule surgery anyway. So I was sent home with a box of patches and instructions on how to use them. A few days after our visit to the office they called and scheduled the surgery for November 5th. I put the patch on her eye for a few hours each day after school. This went on for a few weeks then we went back to the doctor. There was no improvement at all so we decided to go ahead with the surgery. There were many trips to the doctors office for testing and measurements. Then there was pre surgical testing and getting clearance from the pediatrician. All of this was not only stressful for me but for Jasmine as well. A few time she told me she wished I had not picked for her to have surgery at all. I explained to her that this was for the best and she wouldn't have headaches or double vision any more. The night before surgery I slep horribly because I was so worried. I knew it wasn't major surgery bit I just could not get my mind to shut down for the night. The day of surgery was not as bad as I thought it would be. The surgery it self only took a little over an hour and, she was in recovery for about two before we could go home. She had a patch over her eye which I was able to take off later that night. i gave her some Motrin for the pain and she slept on anf off for the rest of the day. She's bouncing back quicker then they thought. Her eye is open fully which surprised her doctor. He said children normally keep the eye closed for a day or two after surgery. Tomorrow we head back to his office so he can check her eye and see how things are.

I apoligize in advance for the wall of text. I just needed to vent a bit after feeling stressed out for a while.

Secret Admirer

It would appear that I have a secret admirer. Last night while I was helping my oldest daughter, fill out cards for her classmates, the doorbell rang. I wasn't expecting anyone so I was thinking who the hell is this. There was a delivery man holding a big flower arrangement and asking for me. I bring the flowers inside and, immediately look at the card attached. All it says is Happy Valentine's Day, no name or any clue as to who it is from. I knew they weren't from my boyfriend because he's been low on cash lately. I am still trying to figure out who sent them to me. So whoever you are if you read this thank you so very much for a wonderful surprise.

Update.

This is an update on what happened with my jaw yesterday.

I had made an appointment to see my doctor. I would have seen him at 1pm but I called the office back. I wanted to let them know what exactly was going on.

The doctor ended up telling me to go to the hospital. He said they'd be able to take care of the problem better then he could.

I get to the hospital and they do an X-Ray of my jaw. Then I wait around a while for it to come back. The doctor looks at it, then asks me if I can open my mouth. If I could open my mouth I would not have been there. He tells me he'll needs to pop my jaw back into place.

He tried to get his fingers in my mouth. Which wasn't an easy task, since I could barley open my mouth. Then he tells me not to bite him and I just look at him like he's nuts. He then proceeds to pull down on my jaw till there is a loud pop. That hurt like a bitch and if I could have yelled I would of.

They give me some Percocet for the pain and tell me to wait till it starts to work. After a while the doctor came back and had me try to open my mouth. Still can't open it that much. So he sends me for a CT scan. I get that doen and wait for the results. They show my jaw is now sitting where it should be. The reason I can't open my mouth , is the muscles are all very tight. There isn't anything else they can do for me.

So I am sent home with instructions to see an oral surgeon in a few days and a prescription for Percocet. I was also told to use warm compresses to help relax the muscles.

Bad Day

My day started off horrible today. My boyfriend left for a trip today early this morning. I had a hard time getting back to sleep after he left. After I finally just got back to sleep, my youngest daughter wakes me up. I take care of her and go back to sleep. I end up waking up again at 7 am, because my jaw is hurting me. I couldn't even open my mouth all the way. Half my jaw feels likes it's locked in place. I am not a happy person right now. I called my doctor already, just playing the waiting game. Since he's not in untill 1pm today. So I'll be sitting around waiting till 1pm , when I can finally go see him. Argh!

Not gross anymore

When you become a parent, certain things that used to be disgusting do not bother you anymore. One example would be having your child vomit on you. last night my youngest daughter Jade did just that. I knew she wasn't feeling good because she actually took a nap. Taking a nap is something she hates to do and, only takes when she is really sick. When she woke up from her nap she was burning up. I was hoping it was because she had wrapped herself in her blanket. So I waited a while to take her temperature. When I did take her temperature it was 101.2, not something to mess with. At this point she is really cranky and wants me to hold her. I try to give her some Motrin for the fever and her decongestant because she is so stuffy. She wanted nothing to do with it, told me she wants her grandma. So we go sit down with my mother on the couch. She tells me she wants grandma to give her the medicine, while I hold her. So I have Jade on my lap and she is taking the Motrin. All of a suden she gags on it and, I feel her stomach lurch. that's when i think to myself "Oh crap here it comes". Next thing I know I am covered with what she ate for dinner. It's all over my shirt and my lap, also on the couch. I didn't freak out though because I knew it would upset jade even more. I camly set her on the floor and ask my boyfriend to change her clothes. Then I went down to the basement. So I could put my clothes right into the washing machine. Normally being covered it vomit would make you freak out. After becoming a parent it's just part of the job.

Jade Empire

I just recently started to play Jade Empire again. I am very glad that I did, I had forgotten what a great game it is. It took me a few minutes to get a sense of things again. I didn't start a new game though, just picked up where I had left off. Once i finish the game, I plan on playing it again. As a different character and on another difficulty level. I hope BioWare decides to make a sequel to the game. I can see this game becoming as addictive as Oblivion was for me.

Resident Evil

I will be going to see Resident Evil- Extinction. I'm a big Resident Evil fan, I love the movies and the games. There was supposed to be a fourth movie but, they decided not to make it. Instead they are making the third movie, the final one.
