Happy Birthday Marines.

On November 1st. 1921, John A. Lejeune, 13th Commandant of the Marine Corps, directed that a reminder of the Corps be published by every command, to all Marines throughout the globe, on the birthday of the Corps. Since the day, Marines have continued to distinguish themselves on many battlefields and foreign shores, in war and peace. On this birthday of the Corps, therefore, in compliance with the will of the 13th Commandant, Article 38 United States Marine Corps Manual, Edition of 1921, is published as follows:

General John A. Lejeune's original birthday message:

"On November 10, 1775, a Corps of Marines was created by a resolution of the Continental Congress. Since that date many thousands of men have borne that name Marine. In memory of them it is fitting that we who are Marines should commemorate the birthday of our Corps by calling to mind the glories of its long and illustrious history.

The record of our Corps is one which bear comparison with that of the most famous military organizations in the world's history. During 90 of the 146 years of its existence the Marine Corps has been in action against the Nation's foes. From the Battle of Trenton to the Argome, Marines have won foremost honors in war and in the long era of tranquility at home generation after generation of Marines have grown gray in war in both hemispheres, and in every corner of the seven seas so that our country and its citizens might enjoy peace and security.

In every battle and skirmish since the Birth of the Corps, Marines have acquitted themselves with the greatest distinction, winning new honors on each occasion until the term "Marine" has come to signify all that is highest in military efficiency and soldierly virtue.

This high name of distinction and soldierly repute we who are Marines today have received from those who preceded us in the Corps. With it we also received from them the eternal spirit which has animated our Corps from generation and has long been the distinguishing mark of Marines in every age. So long as that spirit continues to flourish Marines will be found equal to every emergency in the future as they have been in the past, and the me of our nation will regard us as worthy successors to the long line of illustrious men who have served as "Soldiers of the Sea" since the founding of the Corps."

Fundraiser

I need your help.

On Saturday, Sep 27th I will be doing a CrossFit joint charity event for The Wounded Warrior Project and the Prostate Cancer Foundation. I am linking my donations page for anyone interested in contributing to the causes. This money goes straight to the charities, I don't see one penny. ( I know some people are skeptical of alot of charities) If you can spare a buck or two please send a donation, any amount would be supremely appreciated. I will post a video/picture diary of the event on Saturday evening.

Info on the event:

The Rules

The Workout

The CrossFit workout will be ‘Fight Gone Bad’. In this workout you move from each of five stations after a minute. This is a five-minute round from which a one-minute break is allowed before repeating. This event calls for 3 rounds. The clock does not reset or stop between exercises. On call of ‘rotate,’ the athlete/s must move to next station immediately for good score. One point is given for each rep, except on the rower where each calorie is one point. The stations are:

  1. Wall-ball, 8 ft target (Reps)
  2. Deadlift high-pull (Reps)
  3. Box jump (Reps)
  4. Push-press (Reps)
  5. Row (Calories)

Click here to see the workout in action.

Again, anything helps. If you can't donate, just pray I don't die from the workout!!

Thanks, you guys rock.

This event is not endorsed or sponsored in anyway by the 2old2play website, its administrators, or sponsors. (Thought you might appeciate that Doodi)

Overload!

Fable 2

Fallout 3

Dead Space

Saint Row 2

Left 4 Dead

Gears 2

Silent Hill: Homecoming

Mortal Combat vs. DC Universe

Need For speed: Undercover

Prince of Persia

Tomb Raider: Underworld

And that is just Oct-Nov releases! Seriously...this is truly like dying and going to gamer heaven. I have no idea where to even begin in the prioritization of all these amazing titles about to be unleashed upon us. This list covers it all, action, rpg, fps, casual, and knee deep diaper wearing feed bag strapping on total immersion game types. I can't remember a release wave like this ever! Is anyone else seriously excited about the next 2 1/2 months? What games are top contenders for your library? I need to know.  Leave a comment about it.

On a personal note, I survived day 1 of CrossFit Gymnastics certification training today. It was awesome! Learned so many amazing new techniques and applications for things like pull-ups, ring work, core conditioning, L-sits (bars and rings), bar drills, warm-up, and stretch routines. My body is so smoked right now and my hands feel like hamburger from all the bar and ring work. Day 2 starts in the early AM tomorrow and promises to hold more of the same and some advanced stuff. I'll probably blog a little about it tomorrow and post some cool pics, even though it doesnt really have anything to do about video games. Next weekend is another CrossFit certification I am attending. If you can't tell..I've become a huge fan of this program. So much so I am looking into opening up my own CrossFit gym after I retire out of the Corps in 4 1/2 years. Gotta do something!

Thanks for reading!
