Games, Games, Games and No Time To Play

As we get to the end of the heavy release period of the calendar, we finally have a chance to breath.  The last month had some of the most anticipated games of 2008 finally land on retail shelves.  Much like this time last year, I am left with quite a few new games and not nearly enough time to play them.  Recently I have picked up Socom: Confrontation, Resistance 2, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, Left 4 Dead and COD World at War.  That is far more than enough to keep me busy.  I am finding it more difficult to join up with the same large regular group of gamers as everyone is off enjoying their own special taste of new release heaven.  Even though all of the new releases that I have picked up involve the same general theme (shooting things with guns) they all do it in a different way that keeps things fresh and prevents manotany from setting in.  Fallout 3 lets me explore and shoot at my own pace.  World at War dictates the fast pace and moves you along by not allowing you to camp out too long in one position.  Left 4 Dead pace goes up and down like a maestro conducting an orchestra.  This is by far the best time of the year to be a gamer.  With the holidays quickly approaching I'm looking forward to a bit more of free time to enjoy saving the world yet again.

2 Days Later And I Am Done With The Club

That is why I am glad I rented The Club.  It was exactly what I expected.  Fun but only for a little while.  I would have kept The Club for a few more days except I couldn't find a single ranked MP match to join.  Yikes!  With my new online rental service I am allowed 2 games out at a time.  The other game that is keeping my busy is Mercs 2.  I am enjoying this and will probably hang on to it for another week.  It has a lot of glitches but that can be masked most of the time by blowing stuff up.  The next game on my list is GH:  Aerosmith.  I don't know if I will actually get this one sent to me as The Club was way down my list and sent anyway.  Who knows what they will send.  Hopefully I will have another waiting in my mailbox by the end of the week.  Surprise game in the mailbox is always a good thing.

Online Game Rental Service

Lately I have found that there aren't many games that I like enough to drop the $60 and own. There seem to be more games out there now that I would like to rent for a week or so and play through or try them out. Guitar Hero Aerosmith and Condemned 2 I'm looking at you. As a result I signed up for an online game rental services that sends you games through the mail. It is the standard arrangement of 2 games out at a time and they send you new ones when you return them in the mail. Today I should be getting Mercs 2 and The Club. I'm very excited to try out Mercs 2 but not so much The Club. I played the demo for The Club and wasn't overly impressed. I didn't even put The Club at the top of my games list so I have no idea why it was sent to me ahead of other games. Oh well I'll still give it a try.

Xbox 360 - One Year Later

It was a year ago this time that I made the decision to leap into the next generation of gaming and picked up an Xbox 360. Oh what a year it has been! Over the last year I have enjoyed Gears of War, Halo 3, COD4, RSV1/2, GRAW2, The Orange Box, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed and many others. That doesn't even include any of the PS3 titles that I enjoyed when I picked up my black beast 4 months ago (MGS4 I'm looking at talking about you). A year into this current generation of gaming I am still enjoying all of these titles just as much as I did when I first got them. I may put down one of my favorites for a few months but I always seem to come back to it and when I do I find it just as enjoyable all over again. Lately I have been playing a lot of C&C: Tiberiums Wars and Gears of War.

As the summer starts to wind down the new releases seem to thin down to a trickle and I can't help but think of the ride I started one year ago. If I learned anything from last year it is that this will pick back up at the beginning of September for the start of the commercial holiday season. The fall and early winter looked pack with great titles and I can hardly wait. Until then it looks like it is more of the same and that is just fine with me.
