Busted!

For the first time I got pulled over by an officer while riding my bike.

It was near the end of my ride, just a mile frome home Sunday morning, when a cop scared the crap out of me by coming up from behind and turning his siren on. I nearly fell off my bike then. He could have just pulled up next to me and asked me to stop.

At first I just thought he would be flying by head'n somewhere on an call but when I pulled over he pulled up next to me and proceeded to chew me out, threatening with a $120 ticket.

What I had done, which I know I had done, was coast through a four way stop when there was no traffic.

Now, this is a very small town. minimal traffic. Normally I would just pull up real slow, maybe balance for a sec cuz i hate to have to unclip myself and then proceed on through.

Well this time I just went on through.

But I think I know why he was so testy now for I found out today that Saturday morning, the deputy sheriff was killed on his bike ride (on the same road I ride).

He was struck from behind by a motor vehicle.

I just started cycling about a month and a half ago. This is something I'm really trying to work on. Just because I'm on a bike, doesn't mean I can ignore traffic laws. But $120? Sheesh.

The rules of the road apply to bike riders too

I had a friend who did marathon cycle races. He would get pulled over for speeding! Now if that isn't the most rediculous thing ever!

bikes were made for dirt, I just wish the Cleveland area parks weren't suck pricks about having bikes on the trails. I have to haul at least a half hour or more to find good dirt to ride on, which is part of the reason I haven't ridden in a few summers.

at least he didn't give you the ticket. I would have been seriously pissed about getting a moving violation on a bike. Not like you're risking anyone's life but your own, and you're certainly not going that fast on a bike unless your last name is Armstrong
