Ancient History
I stumbled accross this article the other day. It's a history of the microsoft xbox 360 debacle with quotes from engineers and designers and an inside look at the terrible yield numbers during production. Its about 6 pages but I found it to be an interesting read. Despite not really giving a crap about the end user I think that Microsoft got off pretty easy.

Yes it seems gamers have forgiven microsoft only because of the ass kicking games that are out for it and Sony wans't really in the game yet. By the time they were, microsoft had done the extended warranty and got much higher yields.
I have mixed feelings over it. I'm happy that the console is succeeding because i'm an xbox gamer. But i kind of hate that there's really no backlash for microsoft to learn from in order to not pull this shit again with the next system launches.
Is the 1.1 billion dollar 3 year extended warranty write-off enough of a backlash for them? OR did they just buy their way out of trouble?
I dunno. I'm conflicted.
