Unsure.....

writing from the icu again. I am not sure if its better for me to see my dad somewhat alert or not. it makes it hard to talk to him when he keeps asking if he's gonna die. what can you tell a person that is actually on their death bed? all we keep telling him is that they're working on him to make him better. its almost like watching a child. they can't do anything for themselves and anything you do won't make them do it. you want to smile and laugh and joke and get them out of bed.....but they can't get up no matter how hard they try. the man that lays in his bed now is finishing his job in life and that is to make me a complete man able to handle anything. you don't really know what I mean till you experience it. one day when you have to deal with this in your own lives....it will make complete sense even if you did hear it from MJ. ;) man I'm exhausted.....but.....its my time to not be exhausted.

Sorry MJ, it sucks!!! The cake is visiting his mom right now (she has the big C). She told him she won't be here when he gets back from his 3 mos. ARMY gig.

Luv you MJ!!

I went through what you are going through. It's hard, no doubt about it. Cherish the moments you have left.

You hang in there bro and be strong and when its all said and done you and your fam are more than welcome to come out for a day of BBQ and fun in the sun and of course all the beer you can drink....and Jack.... totally serious about it too

MJ, don't forget to take care of yourself during this time. I can't understand what you are going through, but I imagine that your dad is very appreciative of your company. We are here for you!

Yeah, I've gone through this with my 26 year old cousin that died of Brain cancer two years ago, and my 87 year old grandmother who died last year of Leukemia.

My cousin didn't know, nobody had the heart to tell her she was going to die (it was 100% certain).

My grandmother figured it out pretty quickly, but it wasn't any easier on us.

Both died within a month of diagnosis. The one thing we were happy to know is that everyone got to come and visit and pay their respects while they were around.

Unlike a heart attack or something where you see them one minute and the next you don't, you get to understand what's going on, learn to cope, say your last wishes and all that while they're still around to talk with you.

It's no less painful, but what other bright side is there really...

codemonkey is right. Savor the time you have now. And, yes, take some time for yourself. One more thing! When you talk to him, find out if he wants to come home. If he does, have your doc arrange hospice care and take him home! You won't be sorry...
