I called my wife as soon as my 360 broke(see below) and asked her where she got it. She told me, she got it at Best Buy with a two year service plan. I called Best Buy to see if they could look that up and they confirmed it was purchased on December 22, 2005. Just under the wire! So I packed up all my goodies and marched on down there. After a few minutes of keyboard typing and asking what was wrong with it, she says go pick up a new one. Then I say, just out of curiosity, can I pick up any other version and pay the difference? She says yes but I can't swap the hard drive. Without further ado, I pick up a new Halo 3 Edition and the computer says it's an even swap because it was a first gen price tag. Score! I don't really care that much about the stuff I've downloaded as I don't play those that much. For a mere $25, I can re-download the few games I do play.

Yeah for service plans and a new Halo 3 360 with HDMI for nothing!

AAhhhhh! Nice and quiet. Well, quieter. I have some hearing loss so I can't hear it at all from normal distances. Where as I could hear the old one from anywhere in the room.

I don't have that kind of luck. I'd be the one that would be one day out of the service plan.

If you lose your hard drive does that mean you also lose all your game saves?

rock on man.

You will lose everything. However, games played and achievements are stored on the XBOX Live servers with your gamertag so you get all of that back. The games will know what achievements you've unlocked when you auto recover your tag. So even though you loose your saves, the games will be unlocked to the point where you have your achievements.

I made a conscious decision to do this because I wanted the new, cooler running box, with HDMI. I guess it's what's more important to you.

When I loaded up Halo 3, all of my file share stuff was still there as well as the Bungie Pro slots. I guess it depends on how much stuff each game records to your profile on the servers and if that game has additional internet features and support connected to said tag.
