I'm avoiding GTA4

In the news that is. I was on my way home from work listening to the news on my radio when it was announced that after local weather and traffic they would discuss Grand Theft Auto 4. I turned off the radio immediately because I can't stand to listen to the bullshit any further. I will not rehash my old arguments and just put forth one new, or at least reworked argument from me: I am grown man and can not stand to listen to ignorantly formed opinions about my media outlet choice. These are the same people that sit on their couch for six hours or more every evening cultivating their fat asses and no interacting with anyone aside from being a group gathered around a television, slack jawed and totally engrossed in CSI, Law & Order: SVU, Numb3rs, Lost, Wife Swap, Desperate Housewives, Dirty Sexy Money, Cold Case, The Closer, Criminal Minds, The First 48, Dateline, Dexter, The Sopranos, or a bevy of other shows that focus on murder, rape, infidelity, backstabbing, scheming. You know, all the things that make video games great (except rape and sexual assault) Moreover, if not for the general news media, Jack Thompson, and peoples' need to have some kind of controversy to capture their attention after the mind numbingly boring episode of whatever crime drama or reality show is over, I wouldn't have to be all indignant.

I'm pissy now, no boobs this post.

true true bro. Read an article today about a guy who got stabbed while waiting in line for GTA IV. And the news article used quite a bit of doublespeak to imply that the game was the cause of the stabbing. Even though it was before the game was even released

Grrrrrr now I'm pissy too

Yesterday I was very surprised that NPR's piece on GTA4 was actually overwhelmingly positive. They discussed it as a whole as art. The reporter had actually played the game (and was honest enough to say she hadn't finished it) and was interviewing someone from Rockstar. Among other things, she was impressed with the way the main character's animations told something about him rather than being merely perfunctory. I think it was on the show "All Things Considered." It seemed to be a regular correspondent rather than a ghettoized "media critic" making the report. They even played a segment of the in-game radio station that made fun of NPR for "putting you to sleep with Liberal soft-peddling," or something like that.
