Balek's Movie Review™ - WALL-E

It's Pixar - it can't be bad.

That's pretty much the standard thought process that goes into the decision of whether or not to see anything Pixar puts out in the theaters. All of their movies to date, and I mean all of them, are cute enough to make the kids love them and yet chocked full of fun stuff the adults adore as well. Not that this should come as any surprise, but WALL-E continues that trend in spades. After taking it in with the family in a packed theater, we all walked out feeling good and not regretting any of the time we were in there.

As everyone knows, I'm sure, from the trailers - Earth has gone to hell in the future, to the point when humans evacuate the entire planet and leave robots to clean up the mess while they're gone. It's like a frat party gone bad, but this time you get to have someone come in and pick it up afterwards. Well, one such robot has a whole lot of personality crammed into its metal skin, and you instantly want one for yourself. Then, a sleek, futurisitc (well, more so than WALL-E) robot shows up, and...well, like aforementioned frat party, let the hooking up begin. Without spoiling anything that wasn't in the various commercials and trailers, they share some good times, some hard time, and some trials together, but all ends well in the end.

What can I say - it was all what we have come to expect, no...demand, from Pixar. Animation, sound, colors, transitions, storyline, dialog (what there is...)...all done perfectly. Specifically, the way they managed the 'camera angles' was really well done and stood out for me. Would I call it my favorite? Probably not, but then again when you're trying to rank all A-grade movies in your head, it becomes hard to keep them in any particular order. WALL-E does bring two pretty heavy (for a Pixar movie) concepts to light, but not glaringly in-your-face as some movies would. The agenda, if its there, is well enough hidden to make me wonder if it was really intentional, but did get me thinking on two fronts as I left the theater. No spoilers, so won't mention them here, but you'll probably ID them when you see the movie.

Oh...and there is another Pixar Short at the beginning which was awesome as well - could see it up for an Oscar.

As you would probably suspect, two thumbs up and a definate movie to take the kids to, or just take in yourself. You won't be disappointed.
