A New Week: a new outlook

Well the first Non JayCat blog went up on Gamefocus, so I feel like that chapter of my life is closed. It was fun while it lasted.

No it was more than that. It provided me with so much. It got me thinking of myself as a writer and it was a professional outlet while I was on maternity leave.  I also met some great people. I learned a ton, about myself my own abilities and about the gaming industry.  I am gonna miss podcasting with the lads...   But some of what I miss I left when I finished mat leave, like talking with the guys when Erica was napping.  Playing games I never would have touched before. Things like that.  When Mat leave ended, that is when the chapter closed. I guess I was just a bit slow in turning the book over and saying "yup, that was great... on to the next big thing".

I love my life the way it is. I am proud to say that, generally, I live how I want to live. I absolutely love being a working Mom. And my next big thing is going to be teaching Erica all sorts of important things. How to stand up for herself, how to tie her shoes, how to go to the potty, how to share, how to have a tea party. You know, big girl things. I am excited about that, and proud of who I am and what I had to give up.

Our lives are like streams always changing. You can't ever step into the same river twice, and you can't step into the same life twice. The Jaycat that is typing this blog now, is a different jaycat than the one that will hit "submit". The trick is to tak the lessons learned form our experience, to evolve and to be the best person you can be from moment to moment.

So: I take the GF jaycat... and turn into a new one.

Viola! the new me!

I'm so happy for you to have the things you want in life, not everyone get's that - myself included (I would love to be a mom too, but it's just not in the cards right now - hopefully soon). If I learned anything from Hurricane Ike, it's to cherish everything you have, it can be taken away so easily, your home, your video games, your loved ones...yanno..the important stuff ;D

While I'll miss ya at GameFocus - I'll am happy and lucky to call you my friend. =)

Write for 2o2p instead, no pressure, submit stuff when you want. Hell, it takes'em 2 or 3 days sometimes even to take your submission and put it up on the home page. Totally laid back! Just don't try and get any breaking news b/c it'll be old by the time it gets posted up haha.

Wow, I feel like part of what you said was a message to me! Like the rest said, write for 2o2p, and only when you can or want to. Erica has a great Mom!!!!!

Don't forget to teach her how to play video games. We got my daughter a V-Tech last Christmas, and she loves it... especially the Backyardigans. I was really surprised at how quickly she picked it up. She can now also play Feeding Frenzy 1 and 2 on XBLA. That's right, I'm raising a little gamer chick, and proud of it.

Will you be doing any writing at all, or is it something you're just not interested in pursuing? Either way, it sounds like you're happy with your decision, so congratulations.

I may write for 202p now... but in a way it's a tougher crowd...
