For those who bought the Xbox 360 service contract

If you think that your service contract was extended to cover your system for 5 years you are wrong. I thought the same thing. When I bought my service contract the 360 just launched. At that time the standard warranty covered the system for 90 days. I think I paid $70 to MS to extend coverage for 2 years. Of course my launch system shit the bed soon after purchase, so I made use of the warranty early and often, so I figured I made a good investment. Turns out every launch system was pretty much a piece of shit, so MS announced they would be extending the standard warranty from 90 days to 1 year. Which was cool with me because they simply extended my service contract by a year. But soon after MS announced that they were yet again going to extend the standard warranty, this time by 2 years, meaning every 360 was covered for 3 years free of charge. Now this kind of pissed me off because if I had known my system would be covered for 3 years I would have never purchased the service contract. But I figured that since MS would just extend my service contract again, making it good for 5 years, It wasn’t a big deal. Then one day I was fooling around on Xbox.com and I logged in and checked my warranty status. I was surprised to see that they had my warranty status set to expire in November of 2008. Naturally I figured this must be a mistake because if the standard warranty was good for 3 years, my service contract that I paid $70 for has to be good until 2010. So I gave a call to 1-4MY-XBOX to have them correct it. After a long conversation with a customer service agent and her supervisor they informed me that this was no error. They told me that the standard warranty covers all hardware issues for 1 year and then covers only the RROD for an additional 2 years. So basically, I paid $70 to be covered for all issues for 3 years while everyone else has limited coverage after the first year. Now clearly this is not worth $70, so now I’m upset. I tell them that they better either extend my warranty to cover the RROD for 2 years after the contract expires, or refund me my money, or compensate me in some other way. They tell me that it is beyond their control and that I have to write a formal letter to the service contract department. So I sat down and wrote a 2 page letter to MS expressing my concern over this issue. I just wanted to let everyone know about this, because I’m sure many of you were under the impression your systems were covered for 5 years. This is Mike Patton of Faith No More with his band Tomahawk performing the song Capt. Midnight. Those of you who beat the game The Darkness should recognize it because it is the song that plays during the credits. Mike Patton is also the voice of The Darkness in the game. I love Faith No More so I picked up Mit Gas by Tomahawk and I think it is great. It reminds me a little of King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime. Tomahawk is much more accessable than some of Mike Patton's other projects such as Fantomas and Peeping Tom (although I like some of that stuff too). I recommend it to any Faith No More fans that wish they would get back together (like me).

God of War II

Well, I just beat God of War 2 last night. What a great game. Even better than the original, and that is saying a lot, because the first one is a masterpiece. I wasn't planning on getting a PS3, but now I will eventually have to because it's the only way I'll be able to play God of War 3. If you own a PS2 or PS3 and have a pulse, and haven't already played either of these games, you owe it to yourself to do so.

25 Worst Video Game Covers

I saw this on IGN.com and had to post it here for two reasons. One, it was funny as hell. And two, to express my outrage at a glaring omission from the list. As a proud former owner of the Sega Master System, which was home to a bevy of the worst box art in gaming history, I was shocked to see that the classic game Black Belt was left off of this list. Not only should this game have been included on the list, but in my opinion it should have taken the #1 spot. I mean, take a look at the fucking thing. It's a goddamn foot exploding on graph paper! A badly drawn exploding foot at that. Have you ever seen a more pathetic cover for a video game in your life? I think not. This is an injustice!!
