Also, did anyone else know they had bombs like this during the Civil War? Or maybe it's just the Sepia color to the pic.

All Praise to the Avalanche

There are some good and bad things that go along with any job.

One of the bad things I get to deal with on occasion is when one of my predictions goes belly up. Perhaps even worse is when a friend catches that I've picked against their favorite club and give me hell.

This happened just two weeks ago when I picked the Wild to take down Colorado in six games during the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

For those of you out there that either don't give a good God damn about hockey, didn't realize it was going on or both, the Avs won this series in convincing fashion.

I thought having a team made up of AARP candidates (Adam Foote, Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg) would not be a good thing for the Avalanche...I was wrong. Sakic and Forsberg combined to tally 11 points in the Western Conference Quarterfinals. Foote got a total of six penalty minutes and a minus-one rating for the series. Impressive when you think about the Minnesota team they just took out was a much younger club, which I felt would not have any issues in skating around its Northwest Division foes.

I thought we'd see the Jose Theodore that I'm used to seeing. You know the one, used to be full of promise, but never figured he'd do much ever again. Well, that too was wrong. Theodore has been playing pretty well for the last few months. And in the playoffs, he looked like the man that won the Vezina Trophy just a few years ago.

Does this mean I'll not pick against the Avalanche the rest of the postseason? No, not in the least.

What it does mean is I'll take them more seriously when piecing together my prediction in the remainder of this year's playoffs.

So good luck to Colorado the rest of the way...or whatever happy time fun stuff I'm supposed to say.

It's been a while

I can't take credit for this. That goes all to the fabulous Morty Melnick...aka GroovyElm.

Anyway, we've gone a little bit in the clan without any sort of drama. When it happens though....man, is it good.

The moral of this story is people just can't take a joke...or are stupid. One or the other.

R.i.P. Bruiser

I've been lucky in life that only one person I was truly close with has passed away. Dogs, on the other hand, seem to go much faster than I think they should.

This morning I lost my min pin, Bruiser. He was just over two years old, but had his issues with blood sugar. I guess his heart finally gave out, but still feel like he should have been around longer than he was.

I don't know exactly why I'm blogging this...perhaps it's just to get my feelings out in the open because there are so many emotions working on overdrive right now.

I'll miss you, little man.

Celebrity Endorsements

Every once in a while something just pops in my head and makes me wonder why they stopped making it.

Take Billy Beer, for example.

This slice of fried gold was brought to us by the Carter we should have elected, Billy. A man who was so dedicated to the craft of booze drinking that he had a beer named after himself.

Why couldn't we have seen this happen in recent memory? You know, like a branded coke mirror by Neil Bush and Roger Clinton that comes with a clip-on pinky nail for that quick pick me up. Or at the very least Neil could have showed us how to evade a voodoo curse placed upon us by our ex-wives.

So what quality products do you think Brittney, Paris and the freshly dead Heath could come up with?

I leave it in your hands.

Howdy

My clan's fearless leader, Baine, is not an attention whore.

Oh sure, you can watch tv while here, but how much ESPNEWS can one man handle in a day.

I sit and think of all the good gaming time I'm losing right now with Mass Effect or Call of Duty 4, which sucks for me. On the other hand, I could be at home doing chores/demands of the missus.

Anyone else out there slumming it at the office along with me? And what do you do to help pass the time?

Trimming the Fat...

DarthClem is deleting people off of his friend's list.

I figured it would be cute for a Halloween outfit. Unfortunately, I've been chided by my mates with the idea that I should question my own sexuality for doing this to my dog.

How many have dressed there dogs, cats, lizards, venomous duck, etc. out there?

And if you hadn't heard from the recent glut of blogs on here, Halo 3 comes out tomorrow.

Have a good day!

Who here loves religion!!!!

I don't

Meh to the RPGs

Not much to this one, but I enjoyed it.

Enjoy!

Michigan (-8 ½) versus Notre Dame

This game could be called the “battle of the storied train wrecks” since both teams are 0-2 for the first time EVER! Another thing that both squads have in common is they’re starting freshman at quarterback: Ryan Mallett for Michigan and Jimmy Clausen for the Fightin’ Irish. I’m more inclined to take Mallett and the Wolverines. The main reason for this pick is that Notre Dame has given up 681 total yards on defense in two matches (and I know how bad UM has looked recently as well). That is not something you want to see when playing Michigan attack that does have some quality veterans at the skill positions and itching to show that they still can put up points.

Final Score: Michigan 30, Notre Dame 12

Florida (-8 ½) versus Tennessee

The Volunteers got outmatched at Cal to open the year and took Southern Miss to task in Week 2. Meanwhile, the Gators wiped their cleats on Western Kentucky and then played sloppy in the second half against Troy. So where does the edge lie on this match? Well, both teams have defenses that are iffy at the moment. But I’m going to take Florida’s offense against a Vols defense with an underperforming secondary in Gainesville this week. I can’t see this game being all that close.

Final Score: Florida 46, Tennessee 24

UCLA (-13 ½) at Utah

It’s hard not to like the Bruins on the road in this spot. Utah has lost by a combined score of 44-19 in two games. Meanwhile, UCLA has outscored its opponents 72-34. And while I don’t like taking double-digit favorites, the Bruins are 9-0 straight up and 8-1 against the spread when playing on the road against Mountain West foes. It’s going to be a tough game to watch for Utes fans.

Final Score: UCLA 35, Utah 7

Louisville (-6 ½) at Kentucky

If you’re looking for a game with a surplus of offense, then you’ll find it at Commonwealth Stadium this weekend. Both teams have put up 237 points in just four total games combined, so scoring won’t be a problem. In fact, you can actually make the case that the first squad that punts, loses. The Cards undoubtedly have the better of the two offenses and will get to play a lot of pitch and catch against a Kentucky defense that has given up an average of 426.9 yards per game. And while the Cardinals’ defense isn’t anything to fawn over, they’ll be able to hold down Andre Woodson and Dicky Lyons Jr.

Final Score: Louisville 55, Kentucky 30

Boston College (+7 ½) at Georgia Tech

This match could be an early look at the ACC title game, but in the meantime it will be your standard battle of a good rushing offense butting heads with a quality defense. The Yellow Jackets have one of the nation’s best running games with 654 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. Meanwhile, Boston College has only allowed 29 rushing yards per game this year and just eight first downs. It’s going to be a low scoring game for GT if they can’t get that rushing attack to produce, which I think will happen. The Eagles will stand as the favorites to win the ACC after this Saturday.

Final Score: Boston College 23, Georgia Tech 10

A Dare Fulfilled...

I've made knuckle children....

But then again, who hasn't

My Gaming Nightmare Will End!!!

I'm certain that I'm not the only person who is longing for something new to play after a long and drawn out summer. There is only so much Pacman C.E., Texas Hold 'Em, Galaga and Uno one can play before they start budgeting out their M$ points like heroin.

Sure, "The Darkness" was fun to play, but was way too fast to be a game with the endurance to play for an extended period of time. And "Crackdown" was an excellent diversion aside from being a schil for the "Halo 3" beta.

So which games am I waiting for? Here is the list in order of desire by yours truly.

1: NCAA 08...I'm a college football junkie at heart. And this is the only way I can get my beloved Buckeyes to win a National Title evidentally.

2: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare...I love the CoD series, but this one really looks like it has the legs to not only be my favorite FPS of the year on SP, but perhaps be the most entertaining MP that comes out this year.

3: Bioshock...the hype seems to be justified with this game going by graphics and the hands on play I've seen. The moral dilemas created by the little kids probably won't be as revolutionary as some have made it out to be though.

4: All Pro Football 2k8: I miss the 2k football series and this seems like it will show us what we've been missing for the past few years.

5: Halo 3...I always liked the story line and the MP will be decent, but the beta dropped it down here for me.

Enjoy.
