Netflix

We joined Netflix this weekend in preparation for this fall when it will be available through Xbox. In the meantime, we hooked the laptop up to the T.V. and have been watching the instant stuff play stuff that way. On the way is the first disc of the 4th season of Smallville, and MST3K, and The Condemned.

I did some fishing this weekend. Okay, my wife did some fishing while I did some filleting. We didn’t fish for very long. It was a lot hotter then it seemed at first. We packed it up early and went swimming instead.

System Down

Our network was down for three days last week. I thought maybe it was an evil scheme to get me offline so I would do some work. HA! The joke was on them! I caught up on my reading. Just finished Lisey's Story by Steven King. It was slow in parts, but I thought the last third of it was excellent.

Happy Tuesday

It’s been awhile. I tend to slack off during the summer when it comes to things like gaming. There’s just too much to do. Between work, cookouts, swimming, and fishing, it’s amazing I have time for much else. On top of all that, they just opened a casino about twenty minutes from my house. I can tell that’s going to cut into my time. Oh well, if you’re not having fun, this what’s the point? Went and saw WALL-E the other night. AWESOME!

My family has a lot of get togethers, cookouts, parties, etc., but we’ve decided we want to add something new to have on an annual basis. I came up with a list of themes and am having the family vote on them. There are still a few people I haven’t heard from yet, but so far the front-runners are Casino Night, Murder Mystery Dinner Party, and Talent Show.

This is a good week at work. Today the boss is buying us pizza and Thursday we’re having a fish fry. Thursday is our service awards, which is cool because out VP shows up and everybody gets a free gift. Last year we got these really neat mini-coolers with the company name and logo. This year we’re all getting barbecue sets that come in their own cases. They’re pretty nice.

They see him here, they see him there but, unfortunately, they never have a camera to prove it. All that could be about to change, however, with plans to once and for all capture the legendary ‘Beast of Blairadam’ on camera. The Beast, described as a big black cat, has been spotted several times over the years at the Kelty forest but its existence has never been proved. But now the group Big Cats in Britain (BCIB) wants to set up a web cam near the woods to try and spot the monster as it prowls around its territory. And they are appealing to anybody in the area who can provide them with a safe place to locate their camera. Between 2000 and 2006, there were 42 sightings of big cats in the Kingdom. Mark Fraser, founder of BCIB, said Fife is one of the busiest places for big cat sightings and he has heard many reports of the Kelty cat over the years. “Fife is the biggest hotspot in the whole of Scotland,” he said. “It has always been the biggest place in the country for big cat sightings. “We would definitely be interested in putting a web cam up there (Blairadam forest).” The camera would provide a live feed to the Internet, so West Fife ‘beast spotters’ could log on at any time to see if that cat has made an appearance. Anybody wanting to offer their land would need an Internet connection and an outside power supply. “We would need to have it in a secure location. When we have put them up in other places, they tend to get stolen,” explained Mark. The Press reported in 2005 of Carnegie Harriers runner Iain Taylor’s experience with the Beast. He was out in the forest setting up markers for a race when the cat ran across the track about 20 meters away from his car.

“I couldn’t believe it, at the time I remember thinking, ‘gosh - all these stories about big cats are true’,” he said of his near-cat experience. “The following day, when I was taking the course down, there was what looked like cat prints embedded in the snow.” Colin Seddon, manager at Middlebank wildlife centre, said he had never heard of any big cat sightings during his time there, despite some false alarms.

Went to King’s Island Saturday for our company picnic. The weather was perfect, the locusts weren’t to bad, and it wasn’t very crowded. We stayed from open until closing and even though it rained for a little bit it was a good time. Yesterday I finished laying the new carpet in the basement and getting my man cave back in order. I’ve been too long without my Xbox!
