Movie night

You ever run into those conversations with your spouse that begin with "I never get to..." It happens a lot in my house. Mostly because I enjoy planning and doing things outside of the current 5 members of our nuclear family. I enjoy going camping at a NASCAR Race, going fishing early in the morning to catch bass or late at night to drink beer. I'm suppose to be at the million-man-lan in Louisville, KY right now!!!! but am not cause of these types of conversations. (They still have my $60 if someone wants my seats. Runs tonight and tomorrow). My wife; well let's say she doesn't like to plan things for her to do as if we're not doing it as a family well then it can't be fun.

Last night I tried to kick my wife out of the house and make her go to a movie. She's pissed at her current girl buddy cause she's a selfish self centered dingbat who is still he best friend and didn't want to ask her. She hasn't had a night by herself in months. When I ask if she wants to go out and see a movie around lunch, she's all over the idea. By the time i get home though it's, "Meh..."

I love my wife but I'm of an opinion that if she doesn't get some hobbies and social stuff outside of my 3 screaming angels and me wanting nightly sex or watchign Stargate:Atlantis together, then she's gonna freak the fück straight out in a couple years. I even bought her a trip to Paris to visit a college friend a couple years ago and she completely bailed when it came close to going. I like doing things that don't involve my family from time to time.

Sorry. She actually went to the movie last night but not before pitching a fit about how I just wanted her out of the house.

/rant off

Shadowrun is still fun. I suck a small percentage less than I did the previous session. Funny comment at the end of the game that tells me I found a good group. I said at the end "My wife is back from her movie, gotta run" and 75% of the people in game said something to the same effect and quit. Nice to see I'm not the only one who can drop the game when something more important walks in the room.

Shadowrun

So I buy the game used yesterday for $49.00 with my EB Discount card and take it home. I watch my weekly movie with the wife, "Stranger than Fiction", which was really good. I then get the kids into bed as they've been reading and playing in their rooms during the movie. I sit down, put in the shiny used disk, start up the training session and immediately get invited to a game! I haven't even trained yet and have no clue what I'm doing.

The people in the game are all under 17 and speak really really fast. I pick dwarf, cause I can relate, and someone on the other team tells me I can't be a dwarf cause they want to do something. WTF? So I switch to human while waiting for the last slot to fill. It does and suddenly a long string of obscenities and instructions all spoken at 1000 words per minute are shouted through the headpiece... and the game starts.

I start running around a bit, getting my bearing, killing a few people but the rest of the team is standing there letting the other team kill them. I kill a few more, I cap the point a couple times. Everyone is just kinda standing around.

I'm suddenly dumped back to the lobby with some child screaming F bombs at me and I'm dumped from the server. I look at his gametag and he's got 44,580 Game points! I have 2500.

What I gathered they were doing was letting the teams kill each other where they could collect achievements. What a waste of life. What do you get out of those points and the hours you put into them? Your made up name is at the top of a list that less than 10,000 people on the planet even bother the read? Looking at the score on this asshat's gametag shows the dedication to mediocrity some of today's youth is striving for.

After this little gem of life I'll soon be forgetting, I went to 2old2play and found the Shadowrun Forum. I used the "Add to friends list" link to add a whole bunch of people to my friends list and almost immediately found a game. A personal thanks to "Lithium" whom I followed around from match to match.

He speaks the truth...

What can PC users do that Mac users can't?

"If I want to manufacture biological weapons with my copy of iTunes, I will, fascists."

Actually did what I said I thought I would and played Gears and Oblivion last night.  Here's a tip though.  If you haven't played Gears in a couple months, don't expect a cake walk when you rejoin your buddy on the last chapter of Co-Op Hardcore.  At this rate it's gonna take us 9 years to finish the game.

Mom Went Home!

Of course, now she is convinced that she'll be selling her house in the middle of the desert for much more than she paid for it and buying a home on a lake nearby for pennies on the dollar. The thought she'd blow through her entire retirement doesn't seem to faze her much. I told her though to get plenty of land where I could park my RV down there over the summer... and to make sure that they had a boat dock... and a pony.

It is finally raining today here in Alabama. For those of you under a rock, north Alabama is suffering a historic drought. The cotton crop was supposed to bloom last week and it's nothing but stunted growth. Corn ain't doing much better. Top that off with the entire peach crop being destroyed by a Spring hard freeze and some farmers are about to jump off their silos. This and Scottie Pippen gets $298K in farming subsidies for not planting stuff. We have some family friends who run a cotton gin around here and they are sweating serious bullets this year. Of course, they had an extremely good year a couple years back and bought two brand new IROCS for their +20 year old children still living with them (both of which were totaled without insurance in less than 6 months) and put in a new pool. Maybe they've planned for this.

To gaming, I pulled down the demo for Shadowrun. It's pretty fun so far against bots but I can't connect to a public game for the life of me. It'll bounce back and forth between "connecting" and "Searching" for 10 minutes them bounce back out to the main screen. Single player looks interesting on it but it's locked up on the demo. I'll probably see about renting it this weekend.

For father's day my kids watched me pull out an old favorite, Oblivion, and play it almost all day (with small breaks for Madden and GHII). I started a new assassin character and I'm using poisons for the first time. I never knew those things could be so effective! I love to see an arrow hit a target then watch the health bar gradually reduce to zero after the initial hit. Don't worry... i sent the kids out whenever I got to places with hanging cadavers. I never finished this game's main story line and now I'm hooked again. Now if I can just get the wife of the big TV at night.  We spent the last 4 weekends camping, going to dance recitals and on the river so parking my fat butt in front of the TV playing video games for a day was a welcome reprieve.

I've also been playing a lot of Command and Conquer 3 on multiplayer which has been a blast. I have a group of 4 to 5 people I play with nightly though usually only 1 or 2 are on at any one time. Several are getting to old for gaming or just like going to sleep at the same time as my kids! The two biggies are C&C3 and Company of Heroes. If anyone owns these and would like to play with us, we usually play against a couple hard computers rather than against each other trying out new maps, smack talking and just having fun rather than competing. I have a 8 slot TS server I set up for us to use... I idle there most times but will be muted if I'm away. Server Address: ts11.light-speed.com:8016 IP:208.101.56.248:8016

Kitten is doing fine. Momma cat has this annoying habit of dropping the damn thing off in the middle of the night to romp around the house knocking shit over. about 3:30 every night we hear the little thing screaming as mommy has it around the neck dragging it to the bed. Awesome! Still... I'd rather have cats.
