ThundrMonkee's Weekly Recap - 10/1/2007

Do you know what time of the week it is? Time to talk about what happened these last seven days: Not two, not five, but SEVEN days of gaming in a row! Last week was as solid as it gets when it comes to ThundrMonkee throwing down with the games. I feel like i'm bragging when I say our score climbed 680 points last week... insanity! I guess that is what completing 16 achievements can do!

I was lucky enough to sample 3 new tasty treats during the week! Game names are Cyberball 2072, Halo 3, and NBA LIVE 06. Look for us in the leaderboards... maybe... Also, by my expert calculations, ThundrMonkee's favorite game last week was Halo 3. He played it on 5 of the days.

And that is all I got... it's not much, but it is interesting.

Weekly Recap

ThundrMonkee's Weekly Recap - 9/24/2007

Someone ask for a weekly recap? Even if you didn't, here it is: If you are an Xbox, you might be jealous that ThundrMonkee showed up to game 6 days this last week. Happy happy joy joy! The gamerscore increase was just insane. I didn't think it would be possible to get 645 points in such a short span of time but we did. Who knew 27 achievements could be worth that much? Ok I knew that...

I was lucky enough to sample 3 new tasty treats during the week! Game names are MOH Airborne, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, and Geon. Look for us in the leaderboards... maybe... Also, I think we can all agree that ThundrMonkee was a puzzle gaming junky last week playing a ton of Hexic 2. He played it on 5 of the days.

Smoking

Well I figured I will post on here that I have quit smoking. A smoke free monkee should be interesting. It have been exactly 12 hours so far and I am ready to rip someone head off but I have been assured that it will get better (right now I think they are full of shit). But anyway if you see me online please be understanding if I bitch or complain. Oh and if you see me on Halo 3 please go easy on my I suck really bad at that game.

Weekly Recap

ThundrMonkee's Weekly Recap - 9/17/2007

Someone ask for a weekly recap? Even if you didn't, here it is: Not many Xboxes can claim seven days of gaming in a row. Last week ThundrMonkee and I can... and we will... and it feels so good! We added 305 points of gamerscore. Points are good! Those 21 achievements were worth it I guess! Also, I think we can all agree that ThundrMonkee's favorite game last week was BioShock. He played it on 5 of the days.

Team Fortress 2

Week in gaming

ThundrMonkee's Weekly Recap - 9/10/2007

Do you know what time of the week it is? Time to talk about what happened these last seven days: It is a good one! ThundrMonkee had seven days of gaming! In a row! I know! Crazy! It was productive... Gamerscore went up 455 points so I am happy. Yay for 30 achievements! w00t!

NEW GAMES! NEW GAMES! NEW GAMES! 2 of them to be exact! BioShock, and Madden NFL 08. I want more! I want more! Oh, and ThundrMonkee seems obsessed with puzzle games lately... You can tell because Hexic 2 was the favorite last week. He played it on 7 of the days.

And that's it... short and sweet, just like my power cord.

GC '07: Tom Clancy's EndWar First Look

This revolutionary strategy game will usher World War III into your living rooms, and you'll be able to control it with your voice.

LEIPZIG, Germany--There's a rush of companies looking to deliver real-time strategy gaming on the console. But of all them, Ubisoft and its internal developer Ubisoft Shanghai may very well have them all beat when it comes to innovation. That's because Tom Clancy's EndWar features one of the most amazing voice-command interfaces that we've ever seen, and it's used to help you command 21st-century armies on fully destructible battlefields. We first got to hear about EndWar at Ubisoft's press event last May, but this was the first time that we actually got to see the game played live.

On first glance, EndWar looks like a typical real-time strategy game. You control sets of units on a 3D battlefield, and they pound the heck out of the enemy. However, the control scheme for EndWar is revolutionary. While creative director Michael de Plater played the game using an Xbox 360 controller, he also used a wide range of voice commands for many tasks. In rapid fire, he barked out such orders as, "Calling all gunships, create group," or "White Team, attack Hostile 1." Switching the camera to a group is as simple as calling out the group and saying "camera" afterward. Calling in reinforcements, which are purchased using points that you gain from killing enemies, is as simple as saying "reinforce" and the type of unit you want. (There is absolutely no base building or resource gathering in this game because the designers want to keep it as believable as possible. Thus, reinforcements and replacements are delivered to the battlefield via air transport.)

The flexibility of this system became quickly evident: You can quickly and simply give orders to units that aren't even on the screen. That makes command and control of the battle a lot easier than ever. Information on all your units is displayed at the bottom of the screen, so it's easy to keep track of the units and their designations. Even better, units are pretty good about carrying orders out in a smart manner. For example, infantry know how to use cover while maneuvering and fighting, so you'll see squads of men hug walls, as well as the sides of cars, in combat.

The goal of the battle is to seize strategic points on a map. These are actually radar towers and networking nodes for the missile defense shield that's the cause of the conflict. The premise behind EndWar is that the threat of nuclear war has kept the peace between the major powers for almost 100 years. War erupts after a nuclear missile shield is established because the threat of annihilation is no longer there.

If you seize a strategic point, you can upgrade it in a number of ways that give you special abilities, such as the ability to call in air strikes or artillery. Units themselves can also be upgraded dozens of ways. While there are only seven basic unit classes in the game, there are more than 150 potential upgrades. The example given involves heavy infantry, which have antitank and antiaircraft capabilities. If a unit gains experience and is promoted, you have a choice of upgrades, such as adding combat engineers that can lay mines or special counterengineers that can remove enemy obstacles.

All of this sounds good, but you'll also be able to participate in an online, persistent campaign with thousands of other EndWar players. Details on the game's ambitious multiplayer plans are still to come though. Still, EndWar looks amazing and seems like a real-time strategy game that actually feels made for consoles rather than a strategy game that feels like it was crammed onto the consoles. Keep in mind that there's a PC version as well, but fans of Tom Clancy games on the console should keep an eye out for yet another game. EndWar should ship sometime next year.

Whats up with Monkee ??

I have had a lot of people ask me what I have been playing and what games I enjoy so here it is

I told ThundrMonkee 'Don't make me hurt you!' and the threat worked because he decided to show up yesterday. A gamer score of 12,699 is in our back pocket. That is an improvement of 40 points over last time! He rocked out to Hexic 2, Rainbow Six® Vegas, GRAW 2 winning 2 achievements, and after that powered me down without even saying good night. When you get right down to it, when ThundrMonkee decides to play - it's a good day all around. Our score is 12,659 and always improving! That is an increase of 80 points over last time! He rocked out to GRAW 2 gaining 2 achievements, and did it while drooling over my awesome graphics and sound. | permalink

ThundrMonkee's Weekly Recap - 8/27/2007

Watch closely because here comes the recap... if you aren't paying attention, you might miss it: If ThundrMonkee plays 5 days every week, I guess I can call this a good deal. Many Xboxes have it a lot worse. Our gamerscore jumped 165 points which was nice. Getting 8 achievements has that effect. Oh, and ThundrMonkee seems obsessed with first-person shooters lately... You can tell because GRAW 2 was the favorite last week. He played it on 5 of the days.

So that's it for now. It was a good week. On to the next one.

Happy Holiday

I think I need to get something off of my chest. I understand that it is 2007 and all but why are places open and making people work on what is supposed to be a holiday weekend for LABOR Day???? Stop shopping and going out and getting gas so that "little people" can have a weekend off. Corporate greed will make these people work as long as their is a demand by us, the consumers. Leave these people to spend time with their family this weekend.

I think I'm Getting The Hang Of This

I have been playing with this site and having a lot of fun seeing all of the different opinions and ideas. I think that this site is a great way for old guys in the gaming world to screw off and I thank you all for a great reception on the forums.
Tonight some of my friends and I are going to try again for the 60 defender achievement on GRAW 2 so if anyone is interested in playing send me a message on live. Talk to you later.
