Art Auction Information.

2old2play artist community, we are going to try and do the art auctions this month. These auctions will raise money to help offset the cost of the site redesign you have been hearing about. If you cant participate due to the time line we understand. If its successful we plan to repeat them again after the new year, so you can jump in than. We will be doing these internally here at the site, posting them and setting a specific time for bidding. If you have any questions on any of this, you can post a comment to this Blog, or PM me or, email me. ( I have included my direct email in my PM's to you this morning. )

This is what we will need from you to make this happen.

1. You need to get back to me by Friday Nov 14th with what you want to auction. You can certainly offer to do more than one auction if you want to offer multiple pieces or commissions.

2. The offers should break down into 2 possible configurations:
1. A finished piece of art. ( what ever your thing is, pencil, paint, digital, sculpture, woodworking, etc. )
2. A commission for an original piece of art created especially for the auction winner.

3. Here is what you need to include with your auction submission if your auctioning a finished piece of art:
supply a description of the item, include size, medium ( i.e. pencil, paint, ink etc.) The type of stock its on, (i.e. paper, canvas, digital print, etc.) The more detailed and complete your description the more informed people are and usually more enthusiastic about bidding on it. You must include a a JPG image of the item to be include in the auction post for people to view. lastly provide a desired starting bid price. For example, if you think the piece is worth $50 than use that. Understand that the lower your starting bid traditionally the more bidding that occurs and usually ends with a higher final bid than if you set the starting bid hi. But thats my experience on ebay and might not apply to a 2o2p internal auction event.

4. Here is what you need to include with your auction submission if your auctioning a commission for an original piece of art created especially for the auction winner: Specify any perimeters you are limiting the piece to. This should include style or subject matter, i.e. superhero, figure, portrait, background no background, no nudity or nudity ok, etc. Also specify the medium perimeters, i.e. color, B&W, pencil, oil paint, digital, sculpture etc. etc. One artist has said they will offer signature creation. Thats great, just so long as its very clear what bidders are bidding on from you. As well, you need to include either a sample JPG or multiple JPG's of similar work you have created or a link to a gallery with examples of similar work. Bidders need to understand what they are getting for the winning bid so there is no confusion with the end product. You also need to include the estimated timing for creation of the commission piece. i.e. 3-4 weeks from end of auction. All specific details are to be worked out between the artist and the winning bidder via PM's directly. Here is an example from ebay of a commission, for your refrence:

5. Shipping:
1. You can offer to pick up the cost of shipping as a way to make a contribution to 202p. Because than 2o2p would receive the entire amount of your winning auction.
2. You can specify that shipping cost are to be paid by the winning bidder. If you want to work out the shipping directly with the winner via paypal or check etc that needs to be specified. Or you can specify that shipping will be C.O.D Cash On Delivery and the amount will be based on destination.
3. A basic estimate for shipping needs to be supplied. Bidders need to know roughly what the shipping is going to cost on top of the item to judge if they want to continue to bid the item. Also some none 2D flat pieces, like pieces of sculpture or wood working pieces could be expensive to ship. Bidders need to know that up front. Here are links to the main shipping services on line estimators:

UPS

FedEx

USPS

4. all flat art needs to be shipped flat, or specified if being shipped other wise, i.e. rolled in a tube.

Art Auction For Obama

In 2004 I put together the ARTISTS FOR KERRY ebay art auctions to benefit John Kerry's  2004 Presidential run. This year instead, I have contributed an original piece to the COMIC BOOK INDUSTRY FOR OBAMA auctions. These are similar in nature with Comic Book artists contributing original work which is being auctioned on ebay with all proceeds being donated to the Obama campaign.

If your interested in owning an original pencil work of mine, or if you would like to contribute to Obama's campaign in a fun and different way that also nets you some original art, than please follow the link. The piece being auctioned is pencil on 300lb smooth bristol board paper. Its of my own character "Little Red" ( you can see more of her if your interested over at my web site here.)

Here is the auction link.

And below is a large jpg of the piece itself. The image of it at the auction is pretty small. The actual piece though is 10" x 14". Thanks for checking this effort out. I chose to post this in my Blog rather than in any of the site forums since i had know desire to create any political discontent. Just sharing. If your interested great, if your rooting for the other team, understood and no hard feelings.

Peace!
