R6V Content is FREE?!?!

Woo-hoo! Check out this story from xboxic.com about some new maps that are available right now for free on Xbox Live!

Rainbow Six: Vegas this week received a new edition to the game, the sequel to the Red Pack if you will. The Black Pack however was all too quickly removed though, for reasons unknown. Now it is known that it was put up for 800 MS Points, when it should have been free. Yes, that says free.

Ubisoft, in a gesture towards loyal fans of the game, are releasing new maps for free, and those that were quick enough to pay upfront will be reimbursed of their points automatically, meaning you could also buy the Red Pack to complete the set.

Unless you wait until the 6th July of course, when the Red Pack will also be made free of charge, again as a “thank you to the community”. The Black Pack will be going back up at 3AM PT.

This is an excellent move by Ubisoft, but not one without any reason. The PS3 version of Rainbow Six: Vegas will include everything contained within the DLC on the Blu-ray disc anyway, all for no extra charge to what you usually pay for a PS3 game. Clearly consumers were a little upset at that, thus Ubisoft have decided to make it a free-for-all.

It’s unfortunate for those that bought the Red Pack already, but great news for everyone else. At least Ubisoft had the initiative to do this, and something we would all no doubt like to see more of in the future.

No iPhone on iDay

Why I am certainly glad the hype is finally over, I have been pining for an iPhone since it was just a rumor. I am out of my contract and my 3 year old treo 650 is on it's last leg. I need a new phone. It still works, but it has been dropped once too many- the speaker is shot (thank goodness for BT headsets!), the casing keeps coming apart, although my last epoxy job has worked great! Ha! Anyway, it has seen better days and could fall apart any day now.

Unfortunately, I am not in line for the iPhone right now which goes on sale at 6pm today(ok, I would not be in line anyway, those are some serious fanboys). Any extra money right now is going to help payoff our trip to Disney World in September. So, maybe I will wait until they drop the price, although that could be some time based on the frenzy. Or, get another treo to tide me over. It's free right now with a rebate, but then I would have to switch my $19.99 "media" plan which allows me all the online access, e-mail, etc. I need to an official "PDA" or smartphone plan. And I don't want to do that. So, I am stuck right now.

Anyone have an extra $500 they would like to donate to the cause?

Fun With Face Mapping

I am sure you have heard about this feature in the latest installment of Rainbow Six. But have you tried it??

I still can't decide if I am more amazed that this is actually possible or just shocked to see my face in a game. And yes, it does actually look like you - remarkably well!

Anyway, I figured people would figure out all sorts of ways to have fun with this, and one google search later..... voila!

Just a Few "After the Beta" Thoughts

Withdrawal! Argh!

I really enjoyed exploring the new maps and getting a feel for what to expect on 9/25. Here are some specific things that I hope are tweaked. What about you? Are there things you wish would change for the final version?

1. Dedicated servers - While the extended wait for games to start in the lobby was due to limited number of players, this is still something that needs to be addressed. I played plenty of games with lag and have no hopes that this will be resolved by September unless they make a move to dedicated servers.

2. Weapons - The magnum pistol is more powerful like in Halo: CE, but it is painfully slow between each shot. I like the idea of the sword being limited in usage now. I am not crazy about all of the weapons, but I like the new ones and having more options.

3. Matchmaking - This is more of an Xbox Live issue, but there needs to be a quicker way to send a voice message to friends. Too many screens and clicks, it takes too long you can be annihilated several times over if you are in the middle of a game.

4. Custom options - While the occasional game with 300% speed is fun, I hope the speed and gravity options are not abused to the point where those are the only games played. I like the idea of customization, just not overkill.

It will be interesting to see all of the polish and options in the final game. I will be in the Magic Kingdom on 9/25, but my copy will be waiting on me when I get back!
