Boy or Girl?

Lately, I've been asked, "Char, why is it that you're a girl, but choose to play a dude character in games such as MGS?" Well, thank you for asking such a good question, which I'm only too happy to answer.

There are many varied reasons why I -- a girl -- elect to play a dude character in games such as MGS. Here are just a few of them:

1.) A girl character draws far too much attention. "Oooo, I shot a girl," or worse "Arrrgh, I got shot by a girl!." Anonymity is best. Blend in with the crowd, shoot someone, disappear.

2.) I enjoy watching his butt as he walks or runs ahead.

3.) He has more upper body strength to handle the heavy weapons o' death.

4.) Loss of team concentration, especially in the locker room.

5.) Most of all, I enjoy manipulating the character much more this way. I command, he obeys. Turn right, turn left. Jump. Jump again. Jump higher. You get the idea.

6.) In case he gets shot, he's more expendable and easily replaced/respawned. Accidental suicides are far less frustrating this way.

7.) William once told me that I was "one of the guys" (Thanks again, William!), so it's less confusing this way.

8.) The dudes are usually more interesting and tougher in video gamedom. Who would you rather go into battle with: Mario or Peach? Link or Zelda? Leon or Ashley? I too have been corrupted by societal standards.

9.) Bio breaks on the field of battle are easier.

10.) Finally, are you sure, really sure, that I'm not a guy??!!?
(Just kidding. Scared you though, didn't it?)

There are more reasons, some which I'm sure I don't even know myself. Ah, the mystery of video gaming! Video gaming, like life itself, is both confusing and wonderful.

POP Goes Casual

The new Prince of Persia’s not as good as "Sands of Time," but I just started playing it. When I get more time with it, I'll let you know. So far, it's quite beautiful looking, which I like. What really concerns me, though, is that they really dumbed this game down for the mass market.   The game actually tells you when to block (continual tutoring), and no matter what, you can’t die! The game is still satisfying to play (just wish they gave me something better to sink my teeth into) and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the game. I would first suggest that you get a copy of POP “Sands of Time” to see this series (my opinion) at its best.

I'm getting more worried about where the gaming industry is heading. It's a good thing you don't have to listen to me complain how I really feel about the blatant "commonization" of my beloved hobby! Great art and great entertainment rarely appeal to everyone and certainly not the great majority. Niche audiences falling head over heels in love with a unique title, and all the unique titles to choose from, is what great gaming is all about. People may fight whether they absolutely love caviar or absolutely hate fish eggs, but the great majority is mildly alright with a Big Mac. That's fine, until we end up with only McDonalds, Burger King and Wendy's to choose from. (A rough calculation predicts that will be about 18 months from now.)

So now gaming is becoming "accessible" to the casual-playing masses. Personally, I prefer challenging and original.

Movie: Shower / aka Xizao (1999)
I'm not a big movie watcher, but I have a few I like. This captivating movie is a cinema masterpiece. Don't read the plot, just watch it. It's the best way to experience this unfolding story. It's from a different culture, but the meaning of how the past collides with the future is universal.

char, It's The Real Thing!

It's been brought to my attention by a 2O2P member that someone on a different site is using the same nick. It might be a coincidence, but the point is: IT'S NOT ME! I do find it funny that they spell "char" with a lower-case c, like I do here. I know everyone is entitled to pick a good nick for themselves, and there's always the chance of duplicates, but this other person joined that other site almost a year after I started here in 2O2P. Also, I've been using the nick "char" online at video gaming sties that I use to belong to--IGN was one of them--for more than eight years now. Grrrr....!

I didn't even know about the site until today, when I went to check out the nick. I don't talk about religion, politics or controversial matter online. I choose not to for many good reasons. So, whoever that person is at the "Dec 21, 2012" site, I can assure you, IT'S NOT ME!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm the real thing. . .

It's Hard To Resist!

Resistance 2! Been playing R2 with my clan and having the best time. I’m beginning to realize that my clan could play “Go Fish” and still have a rip-roaring good time. No matter what the game, it’s always about having a blast. (Unless you have to hear me whine about not wanting to host the room)

Anyway, R2 is stunning to look at and the many weapons of choice really enhance the game play. The gameplay is a bit run-and-gun, but as always, playing with your buds makes this game rock! What draws me into this game is the sheer size and scope of it. I stood in awe at the size of the monsters! And, it's got 60 player death match. Just that alone keeps me coming back for more. This is a stellar FPS and then some. You owe it to yourself to play this game.

LBP is always the best for slap-happy jaunty good times. Many levels leave me with a desire for more professionally developed designs, though. But what it lacks in sophisticated design, it surely makes up for in charm and personality.

It’s hard to keep up with all the great games coming out and going on at any given time, but at 2O2R we manage. A lot of the 2O2R guys/gals own an Xbox as well, so they’re even more overwhelmed with all the great titles coming out for both systems. I myself am pacing the games as only a gamer could. I WANT THEM ALL!!! I feel I’m missing something by not playing games like Fable, and Gears in these first few glorious days of its release. Until MS fixes their RROD problem, (for real) I’ll be a patient person and wait for that new slim (fixed) Xbox rumored to come out.

Movie: Because it’s that time of year! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfSzW6K9ZbA&feature=related (just in case it doesn't work)
Then watch "Godfather" (and now it's on Blu-ray) to recover. Some of my clan have been talking about it. I've never seen any of the GF trilogies in their entirety, but I've seen enough segments when the men fold watch it. Some great quotes have come from that movie.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, “Only don’t tell me you’re innocent. Because it insults my intelligence and makes me very angry”….Michael Corleone. . .
