A lot going on...

Things are certainly looking up for me now, I have started a new job with an up starting company as a machinist, and the only way to go is up. The company has designed a revolutionary elliptical exercise machine that allows the user to change their stride pattern as they exercise. So far experts in the industry are very excited about this new design and see it taking off with a huge success. I get to work everyday, and the pay is substantially more than I was making at my last job. The people are really great from the owners to my co-workers. So far, there is no downside to this job which makes me worry slightly, can things really be this good? Only time will tell I guess, but at least thing are going well for now.

On a more personal note, I have a 24 hour EEG that I have to take in 8 days. I was diagnosed with Benign Juvenile Epilepsy when I was 12, I have had only two seizures in my lifetime, one when I was 12 and the other when I was 15. My first seizure was caused they say, by a lack of sleep, as I had stayed up all night the night before working on a model kit. My second was caused by my hard-headedness, I had stopped taking my medication and had stayed up all night watching TV. What does all of this mean? Well the DMV likes to evaluate drivers that have been diagnosed with epilepsy every so often, and it's my time. The only problem I have is, that my previous doctor won't see me due to the fact that I haven't been to see him in over a year. The reason for my lack of doctor visits is the last time I saw him I pleaded to him to prescribe the generic form of the medication I was taking due to the fact that the company I was working for changed insurance providers. They went with a cheaper company that would only pay for generic drugs, unless there was no generic form. I could not afford $400+ a month for a drug that had only cost me $40 a month prior. He wasn't sympathetic with me at all. So I have not been back since. Also I have not had any medication for quite some time now any my sleeping habits have changed and re-arranged many times since. So I'm hoping that I have "outgrown" my diagnosis of Benign Juvenile Epilepsy, and the EEG is the only way to know for sure. I have a new doctor now, who is much more open minded and willing to help me. I have no insurance, so my mom is helping out with that. The EEG will be a take home EEG where they stick the electrodes into my scalp and hook me up to a mobile monitor and then wrap my head up to look like I have a turban on. I will most likely look like a suicide bomber with all the wires and the "turban" on. I plan on staying at home and not going anywhere for those two days except for my doctor appointment the next day. I can only imagine what kind of hell I am going to get from my wife and kids about the way I will look. I may post pictures if I don't look too ridiculous.

On the family front, Geisha is due in about a month with our little girl, that's why she hasn't been playing games as much lately, she has just been so tired. She was put on bed rest for the past couple of weeks, but is now back at work. Since she works at the hospital here, if she goes into labor she's already where she needs to be, so we are thankful for that. I'm curious as to how a little girl will affect me emotionally. New Year?

So how has the new year been treating everyone so far?  Not too bad for me, I need to be working more though.  The company I am employed with is going through their slow time of the year apparently, and there isn't a whole lot to do.  So since I am the new guy, I am the one who gets voted off of the island on a regular basis.  This has lead me to search for a new employer, so far I have an interview next Thursday at 10am.  This should not pose a problem for my current job since most likely, I will not be working that day anyway.  I really hate the feeling that I am not contributing a whole lot to our financial needs right now.  The job market here is terrible, we have a lot of immigrants from Mexico in our region, so finding a job in manufacturing (what I am skilled at) making a decent wage is difficult.  Since they (the immigrants) aren't used to making a decent living, they generally settle for less, which is really more for them, and companies can get help cheaper so that is what they look for, not someone who is skilled and can communicate with other employees.  Maybe I need to change my career.  Anyways, Happy New Year to everyone!

Phone Home

The phone company disconnected my line today, I guess because they felt like it.  The draft for my bill goes out tomorrow, so it's basically paid already.  I called them from my Dad's house to bitch at them and they really don't know what happened, so the customer service rep. put an emergency re-connect order out at no charge (well no shit) that would take up to two hours.  Well, it's been two hours and still no phone.  The company has a monopoly on the area we are in, so it's not like I can threaten them with going with someone else.  I despise cell phones and what they have become, so that's not an option for me at least.  Oh well, at least I still have DSL.
