The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena

I am decently excited about this game. I am a fan of Escape from Butchers Bay, though I never finished it. It's still sitting somewhere. those that know my gaming habits know that this is common behavior on my part. I read online that this new Riddick game will include Butchers Bay also in "remastered" form. Who knows exactly what that means, but I will probably be picking that title up. I love this game! I have only played 3 games, but I feel they really got the feel of playing a soccer game right. If only they could do that for the football games! In the meantime, here is a hell of a goal I scored on a free kick. I jumped out of my chair when it went in! 2 achievements FTW!

Hurricane Ike is here

The winds have started to pick up here in downtown houston, I just heard it howling. It's raining now too. It really just started like this about 15 minutes ago. Not sure how much longer I will have power, but I just wanted to drop a line so friends can know that I'm doing ok so far.

Edit: The wind is howling now. Lights have flickered on an off a few times now. Only a matter of time now I'm afraid.

Edit: Three Fire Engines just drove right up near my apartment building. Something is definitely happening near me. I want to go outside but I know I probably shouldn't.

video games live!

Tonight I went to the Videogames LIVE show here in Houston. For those of you that aren't familiar with this show, it is basically a symphony orchestra and chorus playing music from video games. They played classic stuff like Super Mario Bros to Halo 3. The music is complemented by gameplay footage shown on three big screens and a laser light show. It is hosted by Tommy Tallarico, who is an accomplished composer of video game scores and was also the host of the tv show "Electric Playground" on G4 (or maybe tech tv, can't remember exactly which one).

I thought the show was pretty well put toghether. I enjoy the Houston Symphony already and hearing them play music from some of my favorite games was pretty cool, I must admit. My favorite moment of the show was when all the lights were low, the screens went black, and slowly the orchestra started playing a few bars of an eerily familiar tune. Then all of a sudden on the screen... BIOSHOCK. The sounds of Rapture filled the concert hall. I recommend this show when it comes to a venue near you. Journeyman Cancelled??

So apparantly this was reported last week, but I just came across the story tonight. One of my favorite shows of this new season, Journeyman, seems to have gotten the ax! I'm so pissed! I was really enjoying this show! I know the formula of time travel to "make things right" has been done before, but I thought this time it was very intelligently done. They got the little details right, like the "past" scenes would have music of the period playing in the background, or relevant news clips playing on background TVs. It had the right amount of mystery surrounding it that kept my attention. I'm really bummed that these types of shows are getting yanked so soon. It seems that most people these days are into instant gratification and won't put up with shows that have mystery and questions surrounding it. It's the same argument that the LOST critics spew forth. Everyone wants all the answers RIGHT NOW!

It's such a damn shame because I really like shows like Journeyman and LOST; shows that mess with your mind and make you go WTF?

What do y'all think? I really hope I'm not the only fan of Journeyman!

Spoiled Kids

This was e-mailed to me today, and I thought it was too good to keep to myself. Enjoy:

THE SPOILED UNDER-30 CROWD!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning . Uphill BOTH ways .. Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to
my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how go do you've got it!
I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!! Bet you have no idea what a card catalog is.

There was no email! ! We had to actually write somebody a letter with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the
Mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store And shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait
around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it! And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like " Space Invaders" and
"asteroids" and the graphics sucked! Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or
Screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just
like LIFE!

When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just Screwed!

Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no onscreen menu and no remote control! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel and there was no Cartoon Network either!
You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little bastards!
And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove or go build a Friggin fire ... Imagine that! If we wanted
popcorn, we had to use that stupid Jiffy Pop thing and shake it over the stove forever like an idiot.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled!!!!!!!!!
You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back
in 1980!

Have fun with Halo 3

To my 2o2p brethren:

Have fun playing the golden goose of modern gaming, Halo 3. I'm out of the country on a business trip and don't get back until tomorrow afternoon. That means those of you that got it at the midnight launch will have about a 40 hour head start on me. I admit I am a victim of the H3 hype. I don't own Halo or Halo 2 for original xbox. I've played through most of Halo 1 on my laptop but that's it. Never done Halo muptiplayer. I basically didn't want to feel left out when 90% of my friends list was going to say Online Playing Halo 3. The way the marketing has been for this game, it basically signaled that if I got this game, I would instantly be part of the most influential popular culture event of the 21st century. How could I say no to that?

I get home tomorrow afternoon and will experience the oasis of good times that Halo is supposed to bring. If it turns out to suck, I'm going to be pissed!!

A lot of Football

So I took in a lot of football this weekend. Yesterday, I went to College Station, TX to watch my Fightin' Texas Aggies take on the Bulldogs from Fresno State. This game should have been a relatively easy early season match up for the Ags, but I was a little nervous going into it. I watch tons of College Football, and I knew Pat Hill was one hell of a coach. He routinely surprises top teams and punks them. Long story short, we blew a 19 point lead and Fresno St. forced OT with 6 seconds left on fourth and goal. I wanted to puke, not only because of what I had seen on the field, but because it was UNGODLY hot. It was MISERABLE. Several people had to be attended to by medics. September day games in Texas should be illegal. The Ags prevailed in the third overtime but I can't take good things out of that win. We were severely outcoached and I just think the current coaching staff doesn't have what it takes to take the program to the next level.

This afternoon I went to the Houston Texans' season opener. Stark contrast to yesterday, we sat in an Air-Conditioned Oasis that is Reliant Stadium. That's the way to enjoy a football game! The Texans had an impressive opening win over the KC Chiefs, 20-3. After 5 years of futility, hopes are high for the Texans this year. We'll see what happens. In any case, things are looking up; more than I can say for my Aggies.
