Comic Con Day 1, continued...

Unfortunately I haven't had much time to update my blog of my daily adventure. There has been so much to do that the only time I am in my hotel room is to drop something off or sleeping. I left off w/ the Disney panel.

Next panel up was Marvel Animation presents Hulk vs Wolverine. They were going to screen the entire movie during the panel. I am not sure if you can really call it a movie, since it's running time is barely over 1/2 hr. Apparently Marvel will add another animated feature when it is released on home video. The other "movie" is Hulk vs Thor, unfortunately this was not going to be shown. The movie itself is pretty cool, there was more to it than the two of them fighting one another. It involves characters that are part of Wolverine universe, including a certain merc w/ a mouth. I appreciate that both Marvel and DC are catering to the older crowd w/ these animated features. It was also announce that they were going to do a Planet Hulk movie.

Since there were no other panels that I was interested in, I decided to remain in the hall and sit in on the Dark Castle panel. Dark Castle is a unit of WB that mostly does horror movies. First up was a horror movie called The Hills Run Red. Can't say that it was my cup of tea, but maybe others will enjoy it. They brought out the cast and talked about the movie. There was a brief Q&A but no one had any questions. Ok, maybe I am not the only one. Only good thing to come out of it was Sophie Monk. There was discussion of a few other movies that were being produced but it was very brief. Next up was a movie about ninjas, called Ninja Assassin. Can't go wrong w/ ninjas right? The cast was present for the panel. Apparently the main actor is a popular Korean singer, that goes by the name Rain. I guess he is a big thing w/ the young girls because they were going crazy. Most of the Q&A involved little asian girls asking him random questions. Funny thing about him was that I was not certain if he really understand english that well. He had an interpreter w/ him but answered the questions on his own. There were a few times, he was totally off base. Last movie was Guy Ritchie's RocknRolla. This had an impressive cast w/ Gerald Butler, Jeremy Piven and others. It looks like Ritchie returns to his old style of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Gerald is quite entertaining and funny w/ a knack of cursing here and there. That was the end of the Dark Castle's panel.

I venture up to the Star Wars Fan Film panel. It was stated that they were giving tickets to a private screen of Fanboys. The movie is about a bunch of fanboys that try to break into Lucasfilm to watch Episode 1 because one of them is dying. This movie has been delayed since Jan due to the distribution company wanting to change the storyline. I had seen about 75 minutes of clips at Celebration IV (Star Wars Convention) and that it was great. Something that all Star Wars fan could relate to. It received a standing ovation by the crowd twice. So I was uncertain what the Weinstein's were thinking. Anyways, by the time I got up the room, there was already a long line. Originally there were only going to pass out tickets to the first 300 people in line, I was no where even close. However, I decided to stay as I wanted to check out the fan films. As some time had passed., the reps had started to pass out stand by tickets, in case there were extra room. This made my day, there was still hope! I remained in the panel for about 1/2 hr, as I wanted to increase my chances of getting into the theater. I must say that there are some creative people that made some excellent fan movies. Makes me wonder what would happen if someone else took over the reign of the Star Wars universe.

The theater was located about a mile from my hotel. I decided to walk it, as in the city, you get charged for parking. I made it to theater about an 1/2 hr early and there were already a good amount of people there. Those w/ standby tickets were told to stand outside the theater room. However, after some time, I realize that the people who were running the event, had no clue and was really unorganize. After some time, we were let in. Awesome, I was excited that I made it in. Some time passes and the seats are being filled. One lady, who I assumed is an organizer, was threatening to leave because she was fed up. Pretty funny, guess someone cannot handle the stress. As it appeared that they were going to begin the movie, in walks Kevin Spacey. Holy crap! His production company had produce the movie and he was there to screen the movie w/ the rest of us. It's was pretty weird to know that I was watching the movie at the same time as he was. In the end, I was very happy w/ the movie. I notice that there were some changes from what I had previously had seen but it was still good.

Well that concludes my first day of Comic Con. I still have two more days to blog about and that's not included Sunday. Hopefully I will have some time tomorrow, when the convention is over. Till next time.

Heading out early today, need to secure a Hasbro ticket. Today's actually a big day. There is going to be a panel for Watchmen and The Spirit, hopefully I can make it into the rooms. Today's main attraction.

Comic Con Day 1... and here we go!!!

What an eventful day. Been gone most of the day and just return about an hr ago from the Fanboys sneak preview. Somehow I have survived the whole day on two bearclaws, some trail mix and one turkey sandwich w/ fries. It's been such a hectic day that I didn't get a chance to eat.

The morning started w/ getting the convention exclusives. Made my way to the Hasbro booth and waited for 15 minutes before I found out that I needed a freakin' ticket to be able to purchase anything. Then head over to McFarlane Toys to pick up the Spawn Halo figure for Soup. Next was the Hot Wheels booth, picked up the Batman tv series exclusive and the 1/18th Dark Knight Tumbler. Tried to get some other exclusives but all the lines were cut off due to crowed control. I then proceeded to check out the Fox panel.

Fox studios were promoting, The Day The Earth Stood Still and Max Payne. While in line, I notice that the guys from the Totally Rad Show where ahead of me. The hall was packed, so I decided to sit towards the back. As I was waiting for the panel to start, people started to scream in the back. By the time I had turned around, the beams that was holding a 15-20 curtain were beginning to bend and falling toward the crowd. I just stood there and it dropped two rows from where I was sitting. Awesome, my day was almost over before it begain. The panels were delay for about an 1/2 hr, as they made sure the surrounding curtains were secured. The first people on stage were Keenu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly to promote The Day The Earth Stood Still. Comic Con had also updated their projection screens to HD, so Jen was looking good. Movie looks interested but remakes don't usually do better than the original, but we will see. Next up was Max Payne, Mark "Marky Mark" Wahlberg, Mila Kunis & Chris "Ludacris" Bridges were present. Not sure about this one, looks like a typical shoot them up movie. But it could be worst, Uwe Boll could be the director. This were the only two movies schedule for the panel, but the moderated stop us from leaving, as he had something special.

He proceeded to inform us that someone had just gotten off of Quantus airlines and was eager to meet us. Out walks Hugh Jackman!!! Holy shit, can it be? Are we going to get a Wolverine clip? He comes out to greet us and says that he always wanted to come to Comic Con to promote the X-movies, but it never worked out. But he could not miss the opportunity to promote the new Wolverine movie. He informs us that he does have a trailer for the movie. The preview looks awesome, it appears that Wolverine is going to kick some major ass in this movie, more so than in the previous X-men movies. We see a glimpse of Sabertooth, the Blob, Deadpool and Gambit. Everyone cheered when we saw the decks of cards flying across the screen. Not sure, how he fits in the storyline but I am happy to finally see him on screen.

After the panel was over, I decided to pass on the next panel and return to my hotel room to drop off some of the exclusives. Next up was a decision between the X-men comics panel or the Halo universe panel. I made my way up to the schedule rooms, they where next door, so I would sneak into the less crowded one. When I got there, it didn't matter, both doors were closed and there were still people waiting in line. Crap, that is a bad sign if the smaller rooms are filling up. The bigger rooms are going to be worst. I decided that I wanted to see the Hulk vs Wolverine screening, so I headed to that room about 1 1/2 hr early. I've learned from previous experiences that the best way to secure a seat into a panel that you want to see, is to sit in on the panel before the one you want to see. Since it's the convention policy not to clear out the rooms, due to time constraints. So I was going to sit in on a Disney panel for Race to Witch Mountain.

I was surprise that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was the main star for the movie. Carla Gugino was also there to help promote, that was a nice surprise. Can't go wrong w/ some nice eye candy. After the Q&A, we where treated to a clip of Tron 2. I must say it looks awesome!!! I was not aware that they were making another Tron but w/ the update special effects, it looks amazing.

I think I will leave it off here. It's 2:20am and I still have a long day ahead of me. I will update more tomorrow. I'm going to bring my laptop out to the convention, since there is free wi-fi out there. I am sure I will have a lot of down time to update my blog. Till next time...

A Quick Update

Just dropping off some stuff at the hotel, thought I would give a quick update. There are a lot of people here, usually Thursday's is a kick back kind of day but today there are so many people. I cannot imagine the madness that will occur on Saturday, the busiest day of the con. Also major surprise of the day was Hugh Jackman making an appearance at the Fox panel. He brought along a trailer of the new Wolverine movie and it looks awesome. Hopefully it is better than X3. I will give me full report later tonight. I need to get back to the Con. Wizard World LA Conclusion

So it's been almost a month since my last blog about WWLA. I was going to blog more of my day but I left the convention center disappointed of my experience. Although the highlight was meeting Alyssa Milano and Summer Glau, the overall experience was somewhat blah. So before calling it a day, the last panel I wanted to check out was Heroes. Milo and some of the writers were going to be present to discuss the 2nd season and the what to expect in season 3. My experience from Comic Con has thought me to get there ahead of time and try to sit in on the panel before the one you want to see, to guarantee yourself a seat. They do not clear out the rooms and you are allowed to sit there all day, if you want. So i decided to sit on the DC panel, which was cool but the only thing I was interested is Batman. Apparently the next major Batman storyline is Batman R.I.P. WTF? Not much was discussed but they did shoot down the rumor that Bruce Wayne becoming a New God, as speculated in some comic forums. Please don't tell me that this is DC's answer to Cap's death. SIGH. Anyways, once that panel was completed, it would be a few minutes before the Heroes one started.

The lights were dimmed and they began to play a clip. To my surprise it was Battlestar Galactica, which I though was weird but sat through it anyways. I thought it might just be a promotional clip played in between panels. But it was no ordinary clip, it was about the appreciation of BSG. They had various actors that enjoy the show and commented about it. I believe this was played on TV or might have been an extra on the dvd sets. Anyways, for some reason, I decided to continue to watch and it was over in 20 minutes. A little preplexed of the whole situation, I left the room. I checked the sheet that was listed at the door of the schedule and the Heroes panel was moved to another room and at another time. While I was in the DC panel, the Heroes panel had taking place in another room. Disappointed, I called it a day.

So that was pretty much my experience. I did picked some trades, Ultimates 1, Ultimate X-Men and the Walking Dead. Also got a nice WWLA variant exclusive of Return to Wonderland. It was pretty strange that the largest comic company present was Top Cow and Aspen. Marvel had a booth for it's writers and artists to sign autographs but nothing to check out. DC didn't even bother to show up. 1/3 of the convention floor was bare and to fill it in, the organizers decided to have cars w/ comic logos being displayed. Unless there is someone I want to meet next year, this might be my final WWLA. So until next time...

The drk_knight01 returns & Wizard World LA

Hello 2o2p peeps... It's been awhile since I have blogged, since I have some free time, I figure I would post something quick. I am currently @ wizard world LA, which is a comic convention, waiting in line for some autographs. The line that I am currently in, is for Alyssa Milano & Milo Ventimiglia. They are promoting the movie Pathology, which I had discussed about in one of my previous entries. The convention is disappointing as it is relatively small for a comic convention. Those that went to WW Chicago, at last years LAN, it less than a 1/3 of that size. Most of my time has been in line waiting for autographs. Earlier this morning, I was able to get Summer Glau's autograph, she currently stars in the new Terminator TV show, previously in Firefly and the movie Serenity. I haven't really had a chance to roam the floor but that is probably due to me not wanting to buy anything. Well I think I am going to keep this short, as it's kind of hard to type continously on my iPhone. I will be sure to update my day later tonight or tomorrow, unless something crazy occurs. Wizard World Chicago

As previously stated in my blog, I was lucky enough to attend the Dark Knight panel at Wizard World Chicago. As you can tell, I am somewhat of a bat fan, so I might be a little biased. But the only way to describe this experience was IT WAS FREAKIN' AWESOME!!! However, this experience almost never happen.

Rumors on the internet was that there was going to be a panel at Wizard World, since there was not one at Comic Con. They were filming part of the movie in Chicago, so it made sense to have the panel there. However, as the days drew near, rumors began to state that there was a falling out between the two sides and the panel was in jeopardy. Myself and a few 2o2p's had visited the convention on Friday and there was no mention of anything relating to the movie. Sadly, it looked like the rumors were true.

On Saturday, I ventured on my own to the convention to get an autograph from Tricia Helfer and to get some deals on some comics. As I was waiting in line for Tricia's autograph, I notice some people walking around in Dark Knight t-shirts. On the back of the t-shirt, there was Wizard World Chicago and the date of the convention. I was a little perplexed, as I question if this was part of an another viral campaign. Once I had gotten my autograph, I headed over to the main panel room, to see if there was any details. On the schedule there was a panel for the Dark Knight, later in the day. However, it appeared it was recently added, as it was written in ink on the board. I quickly headed over to the DC booth to get the details and it appears that they were giving out wristbands for the event. Of course, they had already passed them out and it looks like I am SOL.

I was determine to get into the panel, so I decide to wait it out and hope that they would let us in. Of course w/ my luck, I wasn't expecting too much. Once they let everyone w/ a wristband in, they determined that there was still room and let those w/o one in. SWEET!!! I was in. I rush to locate a seat and was able to find a nice spot. After a few minutes, once of the reps from Wizard came out and introduced DC's President Paul Levitz. He greeted us and proceeded to introduce the panel. One by one, David Goyer, Jonathan Nolan, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, Christian Bale, and Chris Nolan came out. HOLY F*CK, I am in the same room w/ Batman, Harvey Dent and Commish Gordon!!! This is awesome and everyone was greeted to standing ovations. The panel had a few quick words and a Q&A was set up. Thanks to the wonder that is the internet, the Q&A was posted online I will provided a link to those that are interested. Once that was over, we were treated to a little treat, an exclusive clip.

I am not certain if what I saw was the trailer that is going to be debut in Dec or something that was put together for Wizard World, but after seeing it I was in awe. I will provided some details, but I am also relying on the internet to help me. Sadly the screens were not up to par, so it was hard to see, plus the writers from Wizard can give a better description of the trailer than me. So in the end, it looks like the movie is darker than the previous. Joker is going to be a crazy mofo! With the surprise at the end of the trailer, this is going to be a kick ass movie!!! I can totally not wait for it to come.out!!! Batman Begins is easily one of my favorite movies and it appears that the Dark Knight will be up there w/ it. So until next time...

The calmness after the storm...

Sadly the Lan has come to an end, however Lb and I are still here until later today. Our flight is not until 5:30 and we have to check out at noon, so we are planning to grab some grub and probably catch a movie, before we head out to the airport. There are still a few stragglers that remain, so I am sure we will meet up w/ them.

The Lan was awesome. It was great to meet other 2o2p's, although this was my second one, there was still a lot of new faces and people to meet. However, there was not enough time to meet everyone, but to those I didn't get to meet, there is always next year! The gaming room we had was very spacious and there was no issues w/ the power. A good amount of food choices, so we were not stuck w/ only the hotel food. Our room was huge as we were able to fit in almost 15 people for a little drinking festivities to kick off the Lan. A big thank you to the organizers and their efforts to top the previous year. I cannot wait to see next year's venue.

Also other than the Lan, a few of us were able to attend the Wizard World Chicago. While a group of them, were able to try out Bioshock. My intentions was to scour for some deals on comics. In the end, I am going home w/ over 100 to add to my collection. There was not much to update on the convention itself, as most of the vendors and stuff were at Comic Con. However, the highlight of the con was getting an autograph from the lovely Tricia Helfer. Also, I was one of the lucky ones that was able to attend the Dark Knight panel, which we were treated to an exclusive trailer. I will update on this more later, as I am limited on time before we check out. But from what I saw, it is going to be freakin' awesome!!!

Comic Con Update: Day 4 The End

Well I wanted to thanks those that have continuously being keeping up w/ my blogs on Comic Con. Sorry it has taken so long to finish the updates, as it is about a week since the last day. However, I hope everyone is enjoying the updates. Now on w/ the show...

The morning started w/ us getting ready to check out of the hotel. I knew I had gotten a lot of stuff from the convention, but I did not realize how much I had bought and gotten as free swag. In the end, my trunk was filled to capacity and I had to store some stuff in my backseat. Of course, I was not done, as I still walk out with another two bags later in the day. Sunday's are usually the slowest of the fours days, as there is nothing really schedule in regards to panels and things to see. So it is the perfect time to finish walking the floor and purchasing those last minutes items. My cousin was not going to go, as he was going to leave early and head back to San Jose. However, he planned to visit the USS Midway, an aircraft carrier that was decommissioned and has been converted to a museum. My plans were to finish picking up some stuff for others and checking out the comic section, since it is a comic book convention. This was actually going to be my first Sunday visit, as I have always left Saturday night. Of course, the reason I was staying was because the lovely Ms. Alyssa Milano was going to be at a panel for her new movie that day. I am sure I am one of the few who has had a crush on her since the days of Who's the Boss.

To my surprise, the convention was still crowded as any other day. So the plan of not having to fight the crowds are out of the door. I roamed the floor taking pictures of things that I had missed or did not come out right on the previous takes. As I was walking around, once again I run into a crowd. This usually represents either someone famous is around or they are giving something out. I look around and it's Rosairo Dawson! She is signing for her comic book O.C.T , which she co-created. I've heard some good reviews, so I decide to buy the trade and get a signed photo of her. Gotta love the randomness of things. So I spend the next hour picking up my pre-orders and things for other people.

I venture up to the room in which the panel for Alyssa Milano's was going to be held. I sat down and the room is barely fill to 25% capacity. This is the first time that I was in a room so empty. Funny thing is I have no idea what the movie was about but don't really care, as long I can enjoy the presence of Alyssa. So the panel is introduce and Milo Ventimiglia (Peter of Heroes) was part of it. I guess that would explain all the girls in the room. However, as everyone was introduce, there was no Alyssa! DAMMIT!!! WTF? So I was thinking that maybe she was running late like Kate Beckinsale, so I decided to remain and see if I was right. Funny thing is I was not the only disappointed one, as a few people walked out. So the trailer was shown and as mention in another blog, it was not intented for the young. I would estimate that a good portion of the crowd were pre-teen girls, just to see Milo. So imagine the shock that had occurred when the trailer was shown. The movie looks interesting but would probably be a rental. There was a drawing at the end for a private meet and greet w/ the cast and an iphone. Sadly I did not win, although I really only wanted the iphone.

The remaining time was spent walking around trying to take everything in, as I did not want to miss something. During this time, I picked up some comics for Lbsutke and the Haloclix Scarab, which he was drooling over. It was fortunate, as the only way to get one was by raffle, however on Sunday after 3:00 pm, they were selling it on a first come bases. So he is now a proud owner of the freakin' huge thing. He should receive it in 6-8 weeks, as it will be shipped from the factory. Also during this time, I was able to see the Mark 1 Iron Man costume that was at the Marvel booth. Previously, the armor was hidden in an crate w/ a Stark Enterprises logo stamped on the side. Up close, the armor looks awesome! However, this is the first armor, so I can only imagine what the current only is going to look like. In the end, I was not up to the task of going to all the different comic book vendors to look for deals on the missing issues from my collection, so I was going to call it a day. However, I was looking for one company that produces the Grimm Fairy Tales, as they usually have booth babes that dresses up like the fairy tale characters. Sadly I was not able to locate them. So it was time to go home, with only an hour left, I was too tired to do anything else. So that concludes my adventure at Comic Con. Hopefully everyone has enjoy my reporting and I will continue to report on my next adventure... which will be the Chicago Lan party along w/ Wizard World Chicago!
