Yeah we are back after a short mental health break for me.

We Need Help

The Rantings of an Ex-Mod

To quote William Wallace, "FREEDOM!!!!".

You may be asking yourself, "What the heck is she talking about?" Ha, see this is the good part, now I finally get to explain.

Well let me start by saying I am no longer a moderator! Woot Woot. Why? Basically cause I was tired of it and tired of looking at the site everyday, tired of looking at the hundreds of PMs (yes hundreds of saved PMs) everyday from grown men or women telling me that I picked on them cause I was doing my job. Sound harsh? Nope just honest; after all isn't it my God given right to blog or post in the forums whatever I feel? Actually it's not and that's where this begins.

Let me give you a little insight to how things work for a moderator on the 2o2play website. Maybe it's similar on other websites, I really don't know.

Day in and day out you do something for a friend or friends that have come to you and asked a favor. You do it because not only do you believe you can help them but because it will better help the site you enjoy too. Now this is important, keep in mind that mods and admins on this site have lives too and stresses just like all other human beings.

Day in and day out this is what a mod goes through:

Dealing with people that feel it's their God given right to speak their mind on a privately owned website that is free of charge and then cry they are being picked on when a moderator had to step in to stop it.

People accusing them of having agendas.

Grown men or women crying foul and unfair treatment when they are contacted privately about their habits on the site.

People who start something that they think is funny and take it over board and then the mods and admins have to clean it up.

Not being able to EVER speak what is really on their mind.

Not being able to post an opinion because mods can't have one.

Being accused of abusing their "powers" or "authority". Ok just for the record I didn't get the magic pill when I signed up cause I had neither.

EVERY action or post is associated as a mod action, not just a human action. Evidently when you become a mod you morph out of your current human state.

Dealing with people that are selfish enough to think that they have the right to post whatever they want and they just get to walk away from it, while again the mods and admins clean up.

Being called names publicly or privately and not being able to respond because you can't.

Not being able to defend yourself properly in a public post because you can't.

Having to save 100s of PMs and emails in a folder on your desktop incase someone comes back and accuses you of something.

Having to sit at your computer for 2 hours on a Saturday morning while everyone else sleeps in because you accidently woke up early decided to browse the site and saw a post going bad.

Having to sit and watch people bash mods and admins for doing their job.

Being accused of abusing powers or authority because you suggest something in a non mod way and being accused of the same thing for doing your job.

People assuming they "know how you are" because of how you have to mod.

People thinking that you live in a far off universe where everyone gets along because you have to step in and ask everyone to play nice, when really no one expects everyone to get along.

People posting crap on the site and thinking that there aren't any consequences because it's the internet, when in all acutality the consequences for many of their actions fall to on the mods and admins.

People whinning because they think the mods over moderate when it's their fault or post that has caused us to be so visible.

People crying "but you don't do anything to so and so" when most matters are handled behind the scenes and without the whole site knowing about it because that's the way it's suppose to be.

People complaining because they think the mods or admins should let people "work it out" but don't have the back bone to talk to the mod, mods or admin they are talking about, instead hide behind PMs to other people or post in a private forum. Simply put want things they aren't willing to do themselves.

Being as fair in a situation as possible and still being accused of not being fair.

Having to be fair when all you want to type is a few choice words, mostly four letter words, but can't cause you are a mod.

Getting on the site you enjoy so much and hating it most days becasue you know you will have to deal with all of the above.

People making such a big deal over the smallest things.

Baby sitting trouble makers.

Honestly the list could continue.

Yet even with all the crap above, every day mods and admins keep coming back to do the job that so many want to hate them for, dislike them for and bash them for. Why? They all have the same goal, so the site doesn't suck and we all have a place to come.

I left because I needed to, not because I was asked but because as of today being fair is out the door. I can't be fair when all I want to do is stab someone because of their actions here. An event today pushed me over the edge per say. I've tried understanding and most actions I do but I've seen many ugly things that don't hit the forums because the mods are there. I don't want to see it or deal with it anymore. Many of the mods and admins have things going on in their lives that no one knows about and not good things because they chose to keep it quiet a lot of times because they are mods or admins and yet people continually act like the examples above only thinking of themselves. Is this the perfect site? No. Does anyone expect it to be? No.

If it makes you feel better bash the mods and admins over petty things, if it helps you sleep post about another member and bash them publicly instead of taking it to a private message. Just keep in mind that many mods get burned out and without them you may as well join a guild run by 12 year olds or join the mlg forum cause without them we would be no different.

Oh and for the record no one mod or admin has the "power" or "magic" or whatever you want to call it to post something on the site, lock a thread or do whatever modding is necessary without giving information about it in the mod forum or the thread itself. Ultimately most decisions are group decisions.

So there you have it. I have to much going on to deal with the behaviors listed above. Sad really, I feel I've let Doodi and the other mods down. I want to just go back to the opinionated smack talking chick who plays games. Period. I don't regret a day of modding or anything that I did as a mod but I just can't do it properly anymore.

Flame away if you'd like, but honestly I don't care at all what any of you think of me or how you view me, most mods don't, that's what makes a mod such a good mod.

Oh wait, now I know how it feels for all of you who get to type whatever you want.
